Default 2015 Amarok 4 Motion BiTdi (Auto) stalling in reverse

    Good day all

    I own a 2015 2l BiTdi Amarok (Auto). 90000km

Recently I have noticed that when starting the car and shifting to reverse the car has no power. Even when stepping hard on the gas pedal the car just crawls backwards slowly. When turning the steering wheel when reversing the car also stalls due to the resistance caused by the turned wheels and lack of power. This has happened once a couple of months back but it was a one time thing and I did not think much of it.

After driving a couple kilometers and shifting back to reverse the problem seems to have gone away. After switching of and standing a while the no power in reverse issue returns.

No warning lights are popping up on the dash. We also plugged in the computer which does not pick up any faults.

Is there perhaps anyone else that has come across this issue. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Regards
    Karel

My Kia Sorento used to do that, and my Amarok does the same. Once they've warmed up there's no problem.

Just pick your overnight parking carefully.\

I don't think its normal or acceptable.

Some other thread on here suggested torque converter might be too tight, if that makes sense.

It happened to me once before as well. Was a really hot day and I had the aircon running full taps. I thought it may be heat related but ave had the car in much warmer conditions in Mozam and had no issues? The comment on torque converter being tight may be plausible I guess, also after that comment maybe the hill start assist that does not deactivate properly?

I agree this is not normal. I will run this by the mechanic and see if it could be the torque converter.

Ive also had it in Moz without any issues. We were in the kruger this December with the AC constantly running full Taps. The stall in reverse however only happened once in December. And now the last week the initial low power issue seems more frequent. Maybe running the AC so high and constantly could have triggered something... not that it should...

Will also run your theory on the hill start assist by the mechanics.

I had the same thing with my Rok.
Few months ago and never happened again. I did post on this forum and had similar responses.
If it happens again, will investigate further.
I put it down to the Rok was having a bad morning.

I also hoped it was the "having a bad morning" part.

But still happens on occasions. My current solution is to reverse into parking spaces to avoid having to reverse directly after starting.
