Default Ford Kuga 1.6 A/T AWD Fuel Consumption

    Hello everyone,

I am a recent owner of a 2014/15 MKII Ford Kuga 1.6 AWD A/T Trendline.

I am concerned about my fuel consumption, please see the picture attached.

Is this the correct consumption? not driving with a heavy foot, trying to maintain 80-100km/h.

I went to ford and spoke to them, the technical guy said it does seem a bit too heavy on fuel and they want to run a diagnostics test and maybe reset the computer.

I browsed on another forum and had mixed answers.

Also, I believe the tank is a 60Ltr, I ran the car almost empty and then filled up and only got 50Ltrs in.

Please advise if this is just a juice drinking tank, should i have gone for the 2.0Ltr? Just doesnt make sense that a 1.6 ecoboost engine can drink so much fuel.

The attached picture is my consumption after filling up the tank.

    Thanks,

    Roja

IIRC there was a class action against Ford due to "false" claims of fuel economy on the Ecoboost Kugas.

There isn't much "Eco" in them, unfortuntately.

A friend's late father owned the 2.0 Ecoboost Fusion Auto. I believe they managed around 6km/l in town.

Wow okay, so I'm stuck with this guzzler then for awhile, I love the car but i think in the long run its going to take its toll on me.

Wondering if there isnt a workshop that can maybe put a chip in or something to help with the fuel consumption.

Hoping to get the 2.0Ltr diesel in the near future.

Very impressive on the fusion's consumption.

With regards to your Kuga, that does seem a bit high, but not impossible. Your Kuga is an AWD, therefore it will use more fuel due to the drive train, not to mention the auto box. You do not mention whether it is town driving or open road that gives those consumption figures?

I have had both the 2.0 Ecoboost AWD AT and now the 1.5 Ecoboost MT. The 2.0 provided me the same fuel consumption in 70%/30% Highway/Town driving, driving majority of the time on 125km/h cruise control on highway. If only in town, it would be a lot worse. The 1.5 Ecoboost, although better at fuel consumption, also drops heavily in fuel consumption if only doing town driving.

The auto box also raises fuel consumption by 1.5 l/100km's on average. For some reason the petrol model Kuga's are fitted with torque converter auto boxes, while the diesel models have the powershift boxes. My belief is that the torque converters tend to raise the fuel consumption a lot.

IIRC the auto boxes on the Kugas are Powershift - dual clutch. No torque converters.

Thank you for the valuable information, all new knowledge to me.

My driving is roughly the same as yours, was just on leave now so a lot of town driving but now back on the highways to work and home.

How many Kms were you getting to a tank? also, could you get more than 50Ltrs into a tank?

I just find it concerning that im going to have to fill up every week considering my work round trip a week is roughly 250kms.

Seems to be normal, kuga's fuel consumption is pretty crap for a modern engine. The AWD also makes it worse.
The crappy powershit transmission makes it even worse

    My manual manages 9l/100km at-least.

Maybe ford can have a look at the software on the gearbox? Should be closer to the 10L/100km range.

With the 2.0 I was very lucky to get anything above 520km's to a tank, and that was on 60 ltrs. The 1.5 I manage to at least get to 700km's dependent on the driving conditions.

I always have to fill between 55 and 60 litres depending on how orange I want the light to shine on the dash.

As said before, have them reset the ECU and see whether that makes a difference in fuel consumption.

Thank you both for your responses, guess I'll just have to stick with it for awhile, its a lovely car, not sure about its off road capabilities but yea, i will defos take it to Ford.

    Thank you.
