Default 2000 PAJERO 3.2 DiD Problems

I have a problem of heavy fuel consumption towing a 1000Kg Bushlapa trailer Capetown to Barrydale and on the way back we had to refuel in Robertson or we would not have made it to CapeTown The car starts easy from cold and also when at operating temp, No black, Blue, or white diesel smoke, It has not used any oil, about a pint in 5000 kms. It pulls ok and runs easily at 110 to 120 kms when towing. Any ideas Also the front wheel bearings are noisy Are there replacements available TIMKEN or SKF I think these are taper roller bearings Once again can you help I am in the UK and will only be returning to SA at the end on the month. The car in question is a PAJERO 3.2 auto Thanks KLAUS

110 to 120 kms when towing.

    That is quite fast.

At this speed you can expect around 14-17 L/100km

I got a best of 12.2 L/100km and a worst of 13.9 towing a Gypsey Regal (which is quite a bit taller and wider than the Pajero, 2005 3.2) over 2100km this past holiday. I try to keep to 110 as far as possible on the straights. The 13.9 I got was with a terrible 30 to 40 km/h head wind.

With a Bushlapa, which has a smaller frontal area, the trailer should run comfortably in the Pajero's slipstream and you should be able to achieve at least similar consumption or better.

I tow a Bushlapa Boskriek with a Gen4 3.2 SWB and previously with a LWB and my consumption at a 100-110kph (GPS speed) is 12.5 - 16.5 l/100km depending on wind and terrain. Worst I had is 20l/100km with a very strong head wind.

Gents Thanks for the replies. The question now is do I blank off the resirculation valve and remove the DPF If fitted and also remap or chip, Any advice will be appreciated. I have the name of a good PAJERO tech in Cape Town that would also be on the cards.

Spoed vreet nogal brandstof.
