    Default Campsites in Maun

    Morning everyone,

We will be stopping off in Maun in June for a couple of nights after 9 days in CKGR and before heading into Moremi. Any suggestions of the best camps to stay at? Maun Rest Camp/Audi/Crocodile/Island Safari or Okavango River Lodge??

    Thanks

    Bruce

Weíll never go back to Audi camp.
Itís in a suburb, very noisy and every time a vehicle travels along the public road (plenty of vehicles, day & night) you get covered by a blanket of dust.
Sorry, I canít comment on any other campsites.
If you make a noise or need music in the bush or on the beach, youíre missing the point.

We booked into Island Safari Lodge chalets for a night, tranquil surroundings, food was not great, water pressure bad (maybe just our accommodation unit) but will do it again. After rooftop tenting itís nice to sleep in a normal bed once in a while.

Bruce try Crocodile Camp on the outskirts of Maun.I always stayed at Audi but after camping on nice green grass and being a LOT quieter I will now always go back to Crocodile.

There was a robbery when we stayed at Safari Island Camp. They increased the security cards but I never felt safe again.

We had the same problem when we camped there in April 2019. We booked for 3 nights but only stayed one night. When booking in, they wanted us to sign an indemnity form saying we take note of the possibility that we will be robbed. I had a problem with this as it will indemnify Island Safari Lodge for any safety issues, damages or loss of items knowing the situation. Even though they posted additional guards, we did not want to take the chance of leaving our campsite to explore the area. We asked to be refunded for two days as we were not comfortable to stay on. The management were very helpful and understood completely our concerns and offered a refund, which we received 2 months later due to all the cross border banking procedures. Next time I will rather make use of Kaziikini Community Camp 62km from Maun (16km gravel). It is close enough to explore all the niceties that Maun have and also close to Moreme South Gate (26km)

thanks for all the advice, I think I might got with Sitatunga, hadn't thought to look at the campsites south of Maun but it looks good and gets some good reviews.

110% recommended. Its beautiful. Lots of game around camp, and if staying there, an afternoon drive in their concession with lots of game. If you are heading to Moremi, Savuti and staying there, make sure you buy everything and leave Maun, to avoid going back to Maun for refueling. There also have beautiful tented accommodation for P450 per person per night, if you don't like camping.
