I recall many years ago (~‘70s) needing to travel from Salisbury/Harare to Broken Hill/Kabwe...
... for some reason the Border Posts at Chirundu and Kariba were not an option and so , after the dutiful beer at Makuti, we turned left to Kazangula in an old Merc in the rainy season (!) but all went well ... crossed Zambezi on the Pontoon and then all way ‘back’ E-NE to KasaVasa, just before Broken Hill .

    Long(er!) Trip !

Terry, that looks to be very much OK. Just remember that one can get reduced prices in Hwange for walk-ins at the picnic spots. Inquire on arrival to see if suits you.

Hi Stan, Thanks for the tip but being our first time back in Zim since 1972 we thought we would play it safe and make sure we had confirmed bookings.

That's correct Terry, by all means book, but inquire about reduced price picnic spot swop, if available when you check in.

Hi Stan, We will try, perhaps they will give us an option to swap Our biggest concern is going to be diesel. Who knows what the situation will be in May this year.
My LC has a 130L main tank plus 4x4 20L Jerry Cans on the roof rack, total 210L. My average on a round trip to Mabuasehube and Richtersveld in July last year was 6.8 Km/L. So in theory I am good for about 1300 to 1400 Kms. Our booking agent said to contact him close to our departure date and he will give us a update on the situation regarding fuel.
