    Question Okavango in midsummer??

    Hi all,

My son (in Tanzania) is talking about doing an Okavango trip during January. I think he's mad - it will be hot as Hades, surely?? Has anyone done it in January, is it possible, and is there any way to mitigate the heat?

Personally, I prefer to spend January safely ensconced at Swakop

    Any advice much appreciated.

It should be better than last year November before the rain :-) January should be hot but will most probably often be tempered by afternoon thundershowers. And the beauty of the green season will make up for the heat.

One of the times of year I would love to visit to see the contrast and enjoy the rain

We did a 2 week trip in January this year. It was an amazing experience! Yes it will be hot at times, but not unbearable. For me, anytime is a good time to visit the Delta!

We spend a whole Dec holiday a few years ago at Ngepi and it was very bearable. Much better than the same time along the Moz coast.

As already mentioned the afternoon thunder showers will cool it down. The color contrasts is wonderfull pared with late afternoon boat trips on the Okavango to capture the amazing sunsets from the water.

    Must I continue....
