Default Mechanical advice - Fortuner manual gear box D4D 2002

Hi some advice from the experts please.

Friend of mine is in Botswana and has lost 3 and 4th gear.
    1st 4th and 5th still work.
What could have gone wrong and can he still drive the car.
There are no noises comming from the box what so ever

    Thank You

Selector could have come loose on selector shaft. If no noises drive it. I once field stripped a Nissan box jammed it in 4th and drive 250km home without any hassles.
It is not what you buy its what you build.

With the central gears ‘stuck’, it does sound more like a selector issue than the gearbox itself.

I agree with Grips, if no other issues, then drive it.

If no self destruction sounding noises just drive it.

Plan the trip so that you can get into one gear and stay there, maybe the other selector forks/shaft will come loose to then at least you in a gear.
