Default Advise Please - Auto Dealer Sign Board, What is Best??

    Good Day Guys

I need to replace my Sign Board in front of my business as in yesterday, it really looks TERRIBLE.

Its currently about 28 metres or so wide by around 800mm or so, and its a steel plate thingie mounted onto an existing metal frame, with a huge vinyl "sticker" on it.

So, basically one ###### big vinyl sticker.

I've replaced it before, and I dont want this at ALL again. The sun really eats it, and it looks terrible.

I'm thinking of (with a VERY limited knowledge of these stuff) :

    1) IBR or similar sheeting as background onto the existing frame, with "separate" lettering etc etc on to it.
IBR must be blue/red, this is a MUST, and I dont want to paint it, I'd like to know if one gets these in "standard" colours?

    2) Or then any lightweight(ish) "background, I was even thinking something like a very broad facia?? Maybe 2 x 400 or 500mm facia's on top of each other?? And then again the "separate" lettering etc etc on it.

    ??

I'm leaning towards the IBR, if I can get it in "factory" colouring, red or blue.

I'll post a pic to try further explain what I'm saying here.

Most large format signage places that can do large vinyl should be able to do a nice big chromadek sign for you

Chromadek - that's the word I was looking for.

That's that flattish, sometimes rounded at the top "sinkplaat", right??

Then, IBR........I'm also thinking of some small LED lighting behind the letters. Is'nt there more "space" for that on the IBR, the "grooves" are deeper??

    Talking French here, apologies

Yes, chromadek is ‘plat sinkplaat’ with a bonded colour layer.

With the LEDs, it would depend on what look you are going for. Signage guys can also make ‘light box’ style lettering, if you want individual letters, but that will be a bit costly.

As an alternative one could look at flat acrylic sheets with lettering/printing directly on it, or as vinyl stickers. One can then place lighting behind the acrylic. (Hope that makes sense)

If you want to replicate that, I would go chromadek with the printing directly on it (instead of stick on vinyl)

The frames are still great and I guess sturdy enough.....measured it roughly, about 28 metres wide x the frames are about 1100mm - 1200mm high.

I'll also defintely make a "full width" board this time

Thanks Sand.......yes, I'd like sort of the same colours etc etc I guess. Other options are red background but I think the Lettering will then "fade away". Or white, but not sure about that. I'd say I'll stick to the basic scheme now.

Here's a full width pic to get sort of an idea.

Like I said, this time full width, so maybe the height of the board can be a bit more to sort of "balance" a 28m long sign out. Shouldnt be a hassle, I can steal about 20cm on top and maybe another 20 at the bottom.

THANKS so far, I know this is as far as 4x4 related as you can get but thoughts are always nice to have

Or you could cover the entire frame at the front with the blue chromadek, but then keep the ‘signage’ part the same length as it is now. I don’t think that will look too ‘empty’, and you don’t need to then increase the height of the overall profile.

    Jeez, this is my take.

You already have a reputable name in the 'dorp', hell everyone on this forum knows your business as well

Why not go for something like in the old days, have 3D letters fabricated and fastened onto the existing board? None of this vinyl crap that needs to be replaced every so often..it will stand out from the rest of the crowd on the street.

I say again. Talk to professionals who have an engineer on call. One after an other advertising/signage boards have failed due to wind. Increase the board from current size and you may have a major problem. It has to be checked - properly. Board flies off on your stock vehicles and no papers for the signs - ask insurance company. Goes to street and hurts a person... These are not small issues.
