Default Rant: Home Affairs - Useless

We have been awaiting an unabridged marriage certificate since April, and complete numerous follow-ups monthly.

How difficult can it be? We log calls and send emails, the First Wife goes to their offices, still no joy.

    Any advice?

Recently took me more than 8 months to get a correct death certificate.

    They are just completely useless.

Swambo just went through the passport renewal process. Online application and booked appointment at bank for 9am next morning. Arrived at 8:30 and out of there by 8:35. A week later, received SMS. Went in on wednesday morning and picked up at 8:30 again. This time less than 5 minutes.

I've blocked last year's ordeal at home affairs for the kids passports from memory. I vaguely remember a lot of frustration.

If you can, schedule at one of the available bank branches.

Yeah, ID & Passport through banks works ok.

    Anything else is a problem.

    Frustrating as hell.

You can pay third party services to get it for you.

I just paid R6000 to get 2 x unabridged birth certificates and 1 x unabridged marriage certificates.

Got them all within 5 working days.

Bribery is what gets you the result unfortunately.

A mate of mine has been waiting 18 months and still nothing..

I tried through the bank to get a new ID and Passport. But, one little issue - if you bank with capitec like I do, I am unable to do online payment as they only list I think FNB, Nedbank & Absa. Also you can not pay in cash at that bank on your appointment day, ONLY online payment with ONLY those few banks on their system.

I will have to, one day when I have taken enough Prozac endeavor to go to one of these useless oxygen thiefs establishments and attempt to get assisted.... oh the joy

Wife and I drove there (office in PTA), sat for 20 mins and walked out with the certificate. What are you waiting for from them? What's the holdup?

Open a FNB Easy account, similar to Capitec account. R5pm. Just make sure you do use it so it doesn't die as a dormant account. In fact I put all my daily-spending type money in it because it has Tap&Pin unlike Capitec debit card (which is just quicker payment at tills).

I wanted to use the bank to get an ID as well in 2016, I luckily had a FNB credit card, I used it's online profile to open an Easy account and paid for the booking and got my smart ID the easy way. I will use that Easy account next year to renew my passport.

Well I used Certificates RSA as I needed these certificates asap.

You will probably pay around 2k for a UMC but you will receive it within 14 days couriered to your door....(absurd)

Renewing your drivers license is peanuts compared to obtaining these documents. It's borderline impossible

Foreign visitors needing birth certificated to come here, yes. Anything else (birth certificates? marriage certificates? do you even know?), nope.
