Default And another 4.6 rebuild thread

As some of you may know by now, I had the misfortune of blowing my motor somewhere around the end of June, beginning of July. Due to various reasons the vehicle has basically just stood. Over the past month or two I have slowly started loosening and removing things so that I could pullout the motor and start the repair process.

After seeing this thread, https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum...bly-of-4-6L-V8, I was green with envy (still am actually).

So yesterday I got my arse into gear and removed the final bits and bobs. Today I pulled the motor, and this is where we are now.

It seems as if the problem was caused by what seems to be a loose or broken camshaft, refer pic 3

Stripped the tappit covers and inlet manifold and this is what it looks like.

Me thinks I need to find a complete sub assembly at least

Seems that the cam floated. Intake valve running on exhaust and exhaust running on intake cam profile. That explains the damage on the valve train. Valves collided with pistons. Eina.

    Thanks JayB, have responded.

Grips, the cam has snapped, if you look at where the broken lifter guides are you will see the one lifter lying where the cam is missing. Will take a picture of how far the cam is out the back of the motor

"Me thinks I need to find a complete sub assembly at least" may just qualify as an understatement
    Good luck with the repairs.

Sjo, I did not think this is possible. Was the motor under severe strain when it happened?
