Default Needed: Guide for turtles at Mabibi

    Hi
We will be at Mabibi Beach Camp from the 22nd of December for 2 weeks. This will be our 1st visit there.
We would very much like to see the leatherback
turtles laying eggs on the beach in that area. We know that this happens only at night.
Is there perhaps a good guide in the Mabibi area that we can contact?
I will appreciate a contact number please.

Chances are you may have missed the laying but still may be lucky. They typically lay around Oct-Nov and then sit in the sand till around feb - march but its nature so fingers crossed.

If you booked at the community camp site just asknon arrival and they will advise a day and time that suits. Hight tide and full moon are best.

It can be a long walk we did close on 5km until we spotted turtles so 10km there and back.

Enjoy it's a great place, have been 4 times over the past 3 years.

Thank you for the information. We will arrive to
late for full moon but will see what the locals have to say. Some friends were lucky enough to see the egg laying ritual during a December stay. I hope it will be the same for us.

I think you may still be in time to see the turtles. We were there in December 2017 and saw evidence of at least 2 turtles having laid eggs. You can ask at Mabibi reception about a guide - they have all the contact details.

We have seen the egg laying process more than once during our yearly Mabibi visit, which is normally the first or second week in January. Yes just ask at reception for a guide, the guide will come and fetch you at your campsite.

Thank you for your confirmation that we will most probably be able to see the egg laying. That is great news.
