Default Hella plug fitted to engel 40lt

    I need some help.

I would like to cut of the cigarrette lighter fitting on the cord for the Engel 40 liter and fit a hella plug, but which wire is positive and which one is the negative?

I do not have one of these volt meters.

If you unscrew the cigarette lighter you'll find that it is actually a hella plug. At least mine is.

Hella plug is good for about 25A. Lighter nort more than 15A.

Go the Hella route. The centre pin is positive.

PS. There are some pirate hella plugs. Don't use them.

Hella is a brand name, and they manufacture a wide range of automotive electrical products (including cigarette lighters).

Their quick connect plug has become known as the "Hella Plug"

The photograph pasted by 4EPajero is what I am talking about.

Now if I unscrew the lighter adapter yes it has the three pins.

So to which Hella Plug does that connect? The one in the photo by 4EPajero?

Daar is nie plek vir daai connection nie.

Gadgetman I have made such a connector box you refer to, I must still however connect the hella plug to the Engel cord.

Don't use the lighter wires. They are to light. The fuse is usually only 10A. Also it will be dead when you take the key out the ignition.

Why go for a Hella plug if The Engel only draws MAX 2.8Amp?

The cigaret lighter isn't a nice snug fit either. The Hella clips into place.

Johan, I bought a plug at 4x4Megaworld made by Engel espcially for their fridges. The three pins fits in there and the back threaded portion screws into the plug so it will never shake loose.

Thanks Jannie I bought these cords today.

One cord is about two meters long, almost the same length as the cord of the Engel.

I joined these two cords and now have a cord of about four meters or so which will plug into the hella socket.

Does it matter if this cord is so long or not?
