Let it dry for 24hours and then start to wet it everyday and cover with plastic after wetting it. Concrete does not want heat to cure. It needs water. You can dump it into a bath if you want to for 7 tot 14 days. Within the first 7days it will have 2/3 of it's strength and after 28days full strength.
^^^^^ This. Especially keeping it wet after 24hrs. Someone else also mentioned it earlier in the thread.

Something else you can try, is to dig a hole in the ground in the shape you want the oven. We have done a bird bath that way and we covered the hole with black plastic bag before doing the concrete. Doing it that way will also allow you to finish off the bottom of the oven, that will now be on top, with a straight edge.

I tried to look quickly if you gave details on the mix you used, but did not see anything. Maybe consider using a concrete mix with 6mm stone if it is not what you have used.

    Ag nee man.

Sorry Riaan, Im sure you will devise another method.

I have not worked much with cement and I hate the stuff, I prefer steel.

My air compressor motor packed up the other day and I was wondering what I could use the receiver for.

    I came across these links

I copied the plans from the first link and started cutting it up last week, I doubt it will see much more progress this year.

I am sure you will come right.

Excellent product indeed, not too badly priced either, if I recall.
    Bag is 100l volume.

So we did Karlien's Oven V2. Interior measured again and planned around the biggest pan I would use.

As before, we formed the dome with sand, using bricks to contain everything.

A change from the previous version was to build a perimeter for the concrete, I found that the concrete sagged too much.

Ready for the concrete and the reason why I had to have a beer for breakfast, a chimney was needed.

Then after two layers we are done. This time I will remember to remove the tin before everything sets.

Ok...I took a few photos and will make a thread.

I guess the more information and ideas out there is always good and of course the contributions of people.

My friend has an emergency job to modify his braai so they can go camping this December.

I have made this a priority task of huge importance and will don my overalls tomorrow.

I guess the compressor thing will only see fire next year.

    However time will tell.

I hope you put chicken wire reinforcing in #2? Other the expansion of heat will crack concrete dome over time...
