    Very sad

    Dear Valued Customer

It is with regret that we have to inform all of our distributors and clients that we have suffered a catastrophic fire in our production facility (unit 6) at 04h00 on Friday 22nd November 2019.

This factory houses the aluminium bending and inner fridge bin preparation as well as the copper tubing bent to suit the various size fridges. Unfortunately the specialized tooling for this manufacturing process have been severely damaged.

Of biggest concern would be to customers who have brought in their fridges for service and repair prior to going on holiday this season.

The entire repair section, including all customer fridges, has been entirely obliterated by the fire.

We are now in consultation with our insurers to determine the best way to handle this situation going forward. Unfortunately at this time of the year it is unlikely that we will be able to obtain new machinery and equipment in order to re-start the manufacturing process. At this stage, we envisage that we may only be able to start up production by February 2020.

Until this time, however, we are unable to manufacture any National Luna fridges with immediate effect.

All of the other National Luna products have not been affected by the fire and will be available.

We trust you understand and will support us during this difficult period!
We will release updates as and when we have additional information.

    Kind regards

    The National Luna Team

On one of the local security WhatsApp groups there was a report of a loud bang and then a fire at the premises.
Hope they can get up and running again in good time. I've always had great service from the team at the factory.

what does it matter at this point in time? The question that matters is how are they going to compensate customers who will now be without fridges over the holiday season? Hopefully, together with their insurers, they can somehow compensate them so that they can buy replacements from another brand....., whether that will fly is yet to be seen.

I also suspect spiked demand over the festive season will see a sharp increase in pricing from competitors, and stocks will be on short supply, as NL probably supplies at least 50% of the fridges on the SA market. So if you were planning to spoil yourself with a new fridge for Christmas, you may be in for a surprise.

I sincerely hope they get this sorted out in good time and that they have good enough loss of income insurance to carry them through. It would be sad for the local manufacturing sector if they fold

there used to be a guy in lynwood area that did excellent fridge repairs. Wasn’t his primary business, but I have had 2 fridges repaired there and no issues at all.

I don’t have his number saved anymore, but will check my emails in the morning and revert back.

Edit.... found his number. Johan Pretorius. 0829039971
