Ja nee, avoid those people, obviously they source their stock from the SAPS and Prison Services rejects.

I think most dogs consider strange cats fair game, while often being very protective of their own cats.

A firm hand, lots of love and attention and all is well. Have had a bit of experience in that.

I adopted from kitty and puppy haven. They have to be really strict. Too many people adopt dogs for dog fights etc, or have to return them due to being unable to feed them, not accepted by the bodycorporate, etc

With kitty and puppyhaven you go to them. Spend time with the animals etc. Once you decide you're taking one, they request a payslip, letter from bodycorporate and site visit. This all happens in 2 days and then you can pick the animal up

Fast, easy and a once off. Next time you take one and leave

The people working in rescue have seen things done to animals that call the whole human/animal dynamic into question.

I am sure some off them are difficult, but they deserve a bit of slack. I have seen things in our Sighthound Rescue group thread that keep me awake at night.

I agree that they sometimes go a little overboard.
I went in to our local rescue centre over the weekend because I wanted a rescue animal.
    The questions they ask:
    Why do I want it?
    Where will I keep it?
Why am I so specific regarding its weight?
I mean, all I wanted was to adopt a turkey.

My major issue with the way some shelters operate is that they assume everyone are animal abusers and will use the animals for dog fights, there are thousands of normal families who are more than capable to look after a family pet even if they are poorer than the rest, but the shelters will not allow them to adopt because they do no have enough money. Guess what those families will find a dog for their kids somewhere, be it from a pet shop or a add on Facebook from a oopsie, not only will they find the pet, they will love the animal and look after it just as well as someone with thousands in the bank. I would even hazard a guess that those pets gets more attention, because boetie and sussie do not have the playstation to sit hours upon hours playing, no they play outside with the dog.
