Don't know how much they will pay him but it will not be enough.

    1) The unions will hate him and undermine him all the way.
    2) Government will interfere all the time because they don't want the gravy train stopped and make unpopular decisions.
    3) The likes of the EFF will pray that he fails so that it can show they should have appointed a African.

Time will tell, but word is this guy made it very difficult for the CEO of Sasol, David Constable, when is was a senior exec there.

Some say he was the one behind what is now the Sasol lake Charles disaster which has tanked sasol share price.

Nampaks share price has also tanked under his watch.

Maybe he is what Eskom needs right now.

Correct - someone new to point the finger at. Man, we can only hope .... Eskom's problems start at the municipalities, how do you get them to start paying? Serious question. If you were appointed today, how would you tackle that problem?

... (yes and the internal corruption in Eskom I know)

Get the sheriff to fetch all benefit vehicles municipality has bought and get a court order to block municipal salary account

It is not only electricity they do not pay. Water is not paid and sewerage plants are not maintained...

The problem is that the municipal electricity division usually deals with the public, not ESKOM. ESKOM's responsibility usually ends at the sub-station.

So ESKOM will have to cut off the ENTIRE substation for an ENTIRE area. Now that could mean parts of a paying group get cut off as well.

(OK, that is simplistic, as you could remove the drop-links on a specific line, but you get my point).

It actually quite simple and the following has been suggested buy some one from nation government on an e news discussion a little while ago:

Treasury subvents a large chunk of municipalities budgets every year at the commencement of financial year to them to perform there tasks a support there obligations.

They should deduct eskoms dues from gross subvention, divert to eskom, and pay balance.

This happened in a way recently when Emfuleni municipality went bust and was taken over by Pretoria direct.

Tamper proof prepaid meters, pay before you consume.

No such thing as tamper proof, just more difficult to circumvent.
If all else fails, moer it with a brick and bypass the innards.

One of the issues is that ESKOM has/had system where the prepaid meter was loaded with some number. Those numbers came out of a vending machine and there was no audit trail. Vending machines were stolen and cheap electricity was sold and most probably is still sold.

Wat wil mense he moet gebeur? Wat is nodig vir mense om te kan se die is moontlik n stap in die regte rigting, kom.ons probeer minstens nie?
