Default Bundu Awn on an Echo Namib?

Any one fitted a Bundu Awn 270* on an Echo Namib or similar fibre glass caravan?

Pete, I would ask the manufacturer of the Caravan if any of their clients has, and then if you can and what is the best way to do it. You need to know where is the structural strong pints inside to mount it there, a hole in just the Fiber glass just wont last

Mmmm .... thanks man, I would but they are known for their poor customer manners.
I have discussed with Bundu Awn and they have been helpful but have never done an awning on a Namib. I really enjoy the caravan and would like to do it right first time around.

    Hi just my thoughts.
I have an older model echo chobe 1
I was also thinking of putting a 270 awning on my van. The problem is how strong is the structure of the van for the awning I am not saying it will not hold but after time and strong winds will it still be ok.
The van was not designed with a 270 awning in mind so maybe the structure is not strong enough.

Thanks for the comment. If one considers that the roof structure is attached to the top of the van and then the std awning is attached to that "pop top" roof section, all of which are exposed to stresses then I think there is definitely strength there. Richard who is on the forum rolled his Namib if I remember correctly all of which bears testimony to how well built they are.

I am hoping for some input from experienced members here. At this stage I am thinking of a type of neat frame hidden within the recess of the roof to spread the load evenly over the roof. Maybe a bit OTT but rather safe than sorry. Will post some pictures for comment. Will have to pop the top to take photos. I have already bought the awning.

My son had one fitted to his Companion which is what convinced me. What an absolute pleasure. I cannot wait.

    Thanks every on so far.

Yes last December. It was great. Not commercialized. Nice and quiet. Water supply was irregular due to water shortage. Brilliant beach. Nice sites.

Yes!! Sorry been away and missed this post.

Yes I was one of the first to fit it to an Imagine Comfort van which is fibre glass. The awning was fitted by Imagine themselves because the brackets had to have special reinforcing. That was a 340 deg wrap around. Worked very well and then I had one fitted to my Afrispoor Cheetah also 340 deg

I dont have photos of the brackets themselves, what I do know is that the brackets had to be fitted before the did the inside paneling.

I am totally off topic (bump me if need to )

Tgwinduna, you have containers on the back of your Comfortvan that interest me. Care to share more info?

    Thanks

So I already had the awning. Just needed to work out how to fit it. I must say that my son having had his fitted on his Companion made it a lot easier. Seeing how it opens up and how the whole system works made it a lot easier to design a means of mounting it. In the end possibly a bit over engineered but rather safe than sorry.

Awesome how did you secure it to the van.
Did you drill holes through the carcass.

That is / was the painfull part! As a rule I do not like drilling holes into body work. I prefer to utilize existing brackets and mountings. That way you can keep the vehicle / caravan std. Unfortunately in this case there was just no ways it was going to work like that (oh and I tried believe me I tried!). So with help from my son he managed to "nurse" me through the process. We are waiting for the painted frame to dry thoroughly. I found some one who works with fibreglass and he recommended a special product for mounting metal to fibreglass (similar to Sicaflex). The frame will be mounted using both this special mounting compound plus some very big special rivets (AAAAAARgh)
