On Monday, amid claims the team needed funds desperately in order to avoid insolvency by mid July, McLaren supremo Zak Brown declared: “The problems have been solved.

“You will hear positive news from us in the next few days,” he told Auto Motor und Sport.

Indeed, the National Bank of Bahrain confirmed on Monday: “The National Bank of Bahrain hereby confirms to the markets that final documentation has been signed and all the necessary approvals have been granted in relation to a GBP 150 million financing facility.”

Woking based McLaren is 56 percent owned by the Bahrain royal family’s Mumtalakat investment company. The same company owns 44 percent of the bank.

Also on Monday, Liberty Media announced that its almost $3 billion loan facility concerning Formula 1 has been amended so that the covenant runs until 2022.

“This new flexibility in our debt covenants, along with a strong balance sheet and ample liquidity, will enable us to weather this difficult time,” said F1 CEO Chase Carey."

"Lewis Hamilton is reportedly ‘demanding’ a new deal with Mercedes worth £40million-a-year, according to the Daily Mail.

The UK tabloid say that a ‘source close to Hamilton’ wants improved terms on his existing deal, which they believe is currently worth £36million-a-year.

Talks between Mercedes and Hamilton are expected to restart now that the 2020 season is finally set to get underway, while the respective futures of Silver Arrows boss Toto Wolff and Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas also need to be resolved with their contracts expiring at the end of the year, too.

Hamilton’s new contract has become a talking point again after Red Bull boss Helmut Marko suggested Mercedes‘ sponsors could help meet those demands that would ensure the six-time World Champion remains the highest-paid driver on the Formula 1 grid.

“Someone else will pay it,” Marko is quoted by grandpx.news.

“Petronas only has to transfer a little less to the team and send it to Hamilton instead.

“But a limit on the driver salary is essential.

“Of course we still have to fulfil the current contracts, but we must do something in this area as soon as possible.” ..."

I think Lewis gives more value for money, compared to soccer and baseball players.

Not to mention F1 drivers who don't even score points for their teams.

yes but remember, it's a world pandemic. He is also probably suffering and desperately needs the additional 4mil GBP. He is a special kind, demanding more money while people literally are dying of hunger. If he was earning like 10mil a year, fair enough as he is after all a world champ, but come one, at 36mil and still demanding?

Ferrari have been forced to make a major redesign of their car as a result of flaws discovered since it ran in pre-season testing in February: https://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/53160036

"Team boss Mattia Binotto said work on understanding why the car was off the pace led to a "significant change of direction in terms of development".

The result is the car will run in pre-season specification at this weekend's delayed season-opening race in Austria.

The upgrade is due to make its debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix on 17-19 July.

Binotto said the team had been forced to revise their approach to the car's aerodynamics following their investigation into its performance shortfall.

"We had to understand why we did not see the results we had expected on track and how much to recalibrate the whole programme as a result," Binotto said.

"It would have been counterproductive to continue in the direction we had planned, knowing that we would not have reached our goals.

"Therefore we decided to come up with a new programme that looked at the whole car, knowing that not all of it would be ready for the first race.

"Our aim is to introduce the updates at the third race at the Hungaroring." ... "

Sure, that may be a rather large amount of money and we as mere mortals will possibly not be able to quantify it properly, but, when comparing it to other sports (Soccer/football/tennis/basketball) his "expected" salary is rather low especially if we use it in the 2019 context in all sports. I understand what you mean that there should be a salary cap as it may become a situation where a driver demands $100mil.

The big question we need to ask is, what ROI is that 40mil for a current 6 times world champion bringing into a team compared to say a rookie Lattifi or Max earning half with no world champion titles or Seb at 30mil with 4 WC and not performing.

I agree, there is a massive disparity wrt pay especially between the top of the crop v those at the bottom, but at times, I personally feel it is justified as we do not know all the details of the contracts (KPI's etc), other requirements they need to live up to. If a team is prepared to pay that salary, who am I to judge especially when that sports person have delivered over the last couple of years, have not brought his team or the sport into disrepute and have been the face of F1 for years?
I remember when this exact topic was around when Schumi earned about 30mil a year in the early 2000's and people called it ridiculous.

I think that Mercedes are also the dominant team and whoever races for them are most probably gonna take the title this year.
Maybe LH should also consider that. That car is making him win world champs. If it wasnt for Merc, he most probably would still be on 1 championship had he stayed at Mcclaren.

Maybe he should be more considerate in these trying times, o, sorry I forgot. Hes definately not in trying times with his 36million deal he already has.

Can help to feel its like biting the hand....
