Hardbody 3.3

My son has a 3.3 Hardbody 4x2. It started making a hollow kind of sound on Sunday. It sounds as if it comes from between the 2 cylinder heads .....like when you are tapping with a screwdriver handle on the intake manifold.

Any ideas to what i should look at? It has 210 000 km's. Cambelt replaced on 115 000 k's.

Could be a lot of things.

Does the sound vary?

- valve seat
- cam follower
- manifold crack/leak
- injector failure

No, it is the same . When you start it is quiet but then you can start hearing it. When he switches off you hear it clearly...that hollow sound

A hollow knocking that doesn't change speed but varies in volume?

that does sound bad. but sounds like its on the outside of the engine ....things to check.....
pullyes , tentioners or beaings of the tentioner especially the one running the aircon belt, starter might be loose , sounds like somethings is loose and rubbing . good luck let us know when you guys find the fault.

Nizmozella, hi. Yes it was the cambelt tensioner. Replaced it.....what freaken job and a half !!!!!

yes it is a bit of a job to get to the tentioner s but its worth replacing that than having something break inside the engine. glads its sorted. i had the top tentioners bearing fail and was quoted an astronomical R800 for the part. but i whent to the bearing place next to Nissan and bought the replacement bearing for R24 and used the old casing. problem solved

Gee wizz. Yes they get their bearing from bearing man and charge us for the printing of "Nissan" on the boxes. December i will do my bakkie as well. Think it will be faster now that i did the job once
