Off the beaten track camping ideas

Hi all,

I am newby to the forum, always been a " camper " but I recently joined the 4x4 community and bought my dream vehicle my Toyota Hilux. I have a Conqueror Conquest off road trailer and I am planing a December holiday trip from Port Elizabeth to the In Laws in Moorreesburg in the Western Cape.

I am wanting to camp at maybe two spots along the way but not looking for the everyday grassy caravan parks. Can anyone recommend some good off the beaten track ( but not too far off the main route ) camping spots?

There are a few options on route to take from P.E either:

PE - Joubertina, Oudtshoorn, Calitzdorp, Montague, Worcester

PE - De Rust, Prince Albert, Matjiesfontein, Ceres.

Hi and welcome!

We did a drive from PE to Cpt a couple years back, and one of the stops was the Diepwalle Forest campsite in the knysna area, We really enjoyed it, something a bit different.
Oh wait, hangon, Im not sure a caravan/trailer will work there - the camp sites are wooden decks you pitch your tent on. Maybe worth some investigation though.

roughly in the middle of your trip try Bnniedale outside Mosselbay area. was there long ago but really great spot

then possibly Cederberg area before you go for the west coast

will have to book well in advance though, you might be too late already

Burchell's Route on the Prince Albert's pass between Plet and Uniondale. I really enjoy it. Only 3 1/2 hours from PE but that lets you get up later or do a bit of 4x4ing
