    Default CTEK D250S Problem

    I recently bought a 2nd hand CTEK D250S, works perfect for charging the Aux battery in the XT-140 while driving, just have a problem when I connect my solar panel.

    It starts of by charging from panel @ 14.5 volts, but after a few hours it stops charging and a weird sequence of led lights flicker on unit. First the red light flickers, then all lights come on and switch off again. It then repeats the process repeatedly. I have opened the unit and everything seems fine, all the fuses are still 100%. I have double and triple checked my wiring, and everything has been connected like it should. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated!

    I have the manual, but there is so much LED activity going on I cant decide which error code it is giving, below is a youtube clip with exact problem as mine. Now I know the comments section suggest a fuse replacement, but I checked inside the unit and all fuses are still 100%.

    Hmmm...it looks more like you are loosing input from your battery. Test the battery, ensure it has good ventilation, check your fuses coming into the D250S and, lastly, make sure the connections on the D250s has been properly tightened. I have had mu D250S mounted in the engine bay of my Hilux for years and have had no issues with the unit. Good luck and keep us posted

    so the problem still persists...I have the following sequence of lights on my D250S;

    1st the green light comes on, then the panel followed by the alternator and secondary battery. Then all switches off with the red light flashing once. Repeats every 4 seconds or so. Iíve been told that my wiring is to small gauge and I need to use minimum 6sq mm. So I will be replacing some wires and redo installation and get back to you. hope this sorts my problem out.

    Ok just some feedback...

    Opened up the unit and did a thorough check through all circuitry and managed to stumble upon a small problem. Seems the protection diode and Zener diode popped, this might be due to over voltage or reverse pole connection on solar side who knows? I bought the unit like this...

    Picture below of 2 very unhappy diodes...

    Tested on the bench and she works again, will install into the trailer and test later.

    Nice work!

    Good to know that the unit can be revived when one reverses the polarity (even though there is lots of warning not to do it)

    Thanks all

    I bought the unit from a member in PE, worked 100% charging from cranking battery but not from solar. I must admit i did have to spend a lot of time opening the unit, very well put together and im sure most guys wont even attempt doing so. I really needed the solar charge side being a MPPT controller. I only paid a small amount for unit, so bit the bullet and fixed it.
