Default Camping Review thread - all things camping

This weekend we had a rare last minute opportunity to hook the rig and enjoy the outdoors. SWAMBO says check on the forum where is the best spot the guys camped at lately. So I checked...some great info but nothing that gives feedback of what your latest camping experience was like.

Letís keep it simple. Post some photos of the campsite or item you would like us all to know about and what your experience was like.

Lets make this thread serve as a tool for all, especially the new campers.

As suggested by contributors here is a guideline of items you can comment on. Please also include ease of access to the camping grounds

    Cool idea for a Thread,

What I can say is go check out my Facebook and YouTube pages as I run a camping platform called I love camping and I normally give detailed reviews of the campsites that I visit, normally we hit around 1 or 2 places a month

Here is the latest one I did on our recent trip to Beaverlac: https://youtu.be/ZjxLVCnP8L0

Default Camping Review thread - all things camping

Koro Koro about 35kís outside Bela Bela was our camping spot for this weekend.

Leaving the tar you have under a kilometer on a very nice sand road. A choice of a traditional caravan park or the bush camp.

So we absolutely loved the bush camps. Only 6 stands with a shared ablution block. More than ample for the amount of stands.

Big thumbs up from us.......we love the bush.

I like this idea, great and buy into the benefits thereof.

    A few visited lately:

Salt Rock - my first and most definitely not last, 8.5/10 in my opinion, even though the weather was not perfect. Book at the back, not like me who insisted to be right in front, tail between the legs requested to move the next morning

It is just gorgeous waking up to crashing waves and to see dolphins lazily swim in the surf.

Did not take pics of the ablutions. They are dated, but clean.

Somabula. I love this place, only drawback was Sunday breakfast run, the camp is fairly close to the main road between Rayton and Cullinan. 8/10 for me.

We had open air showers, boy it was great. Back there next weekend, cannot wait!

Port Oí Call, Trafalgar, 15km North of Port Edward.

What a gem, been there twice in the last 2 years. Also dated ablutions, but again clean.

Terraced camp, which is enclosed and safe, very unlike Scottburg for instance where beach access could be very unsafe.

Private beach and especially during Christmas time I think you wonít be missing the masses taking charge of the beach.

    7.5/10 for me.

Close to Brits - Drieberge caravan park.

Been there at least four times in the last three years.

Yes, they have expanded a lot within the entertainment area, but it is about 400 - 500m from the camping area, and no day visitor may access the camp site area.

Nice mountain cycle/run or walk area. The river has a run-off which during the rainy season almost sounds like the ocean in the distance, great. Fishing also allowed. 7/10 for me.

    Ablutions are fine.

It would be nice if this info could be shared on a regional basis. Having all of Southern Africaís info in one thread will be challenging. Perhaps admin will be able to sort feedback into the regional section. Or better still, perhaps it should be posted that way.

Tx DC, I like the point scoring idea. For most safety is a huge issue. Iíd suggest we give feedback on this also.

Ok, lets see how the thread populates. The ideal is to have it all in one easily accessible thread.

I know the area very well, have a property across the Mpenyati in Greenheart.

Port O' Call is owned by an elderly couple with old school hospitality. Yes the ablutions are a bit long in the tooth but the facilities are spotless as are the grounds. The pool is a clean and most enjoyable feature in the park while the security can be a pain in the posterior. I had a site where the bathroom outside light was shining in to my window and no matter how many times I turned it off it would miraculously turn back on in 10 min, security risk. The Machikelane patrolled the place diligently all night.

Holiday seasons are typical over crowding and the only saving grace is the fact that it is not a bathing beach, no life savers buuuuut it is next to the first official and legal nudist beach The beach also falls in the Trafalgar Marine reserve and though fishing is permitted collecting of bait and shellfish is not. Fishing in front of the park is good with great catches made in front of the Mpenyati and off high rock at Greenheart. There is a nice hiking trail at the adjacent Mpenyati conservancy with excellent birding.

As a holiday destination it is in a good position, close to Margate with its poo flag beach and Shelly with its huge malls or if that does not tickle your fancy the wild coast casino and entertainment centre is just down the road and little gems like the coffee farm is around the corner.

    Security -- 9/10

    as for the rest....8/10

Matamba Bush Camp on the Vaalwater Lehpelale road.

    Situated in a Game Reserve.

5 individual bush camps 100m apart. Ablutions one closed one open and one poo only.

    Small pool.

    Free wood.

    Great hosts

Regularly go there but got pissed of with one group that egos got to them. 2x Prados with 2x Bush Lapas. We knew there was going to be trouble.

    Other than that full marks.
