    Default Transcend DrivePro 230 DashCam

The new bakkie needed a new DashCam. (The old Eagleye is not so lekker any more - but well done for a good life)

After searching the interwebs, my choice was the Transcend DrivePro 230. I always like to read the user manual before I buy. It gives you a good idea of what it can do.

Store of choice was The Gadget Shop. Here it is in their online shop. I decided to pick one up from their store at Mall of Africa, Midrand. With the assistance of the very helpfull staff, I left the store with my new camera and an extra 64GB class 10 SD Card. It came with a Micro SD card of unknown size. The size was blacked out on the box under "Package Contents". In a later episode I will elaborate on my experience with The Gadget Shop.

I stopped over in Roodepoort at family for a cup of coffee and decided to unbox it. Everything was as expected but I was very surprised with the 32GB SD Card that was included. I mounted my camera for the trip back home to Gaborone. It was as easy as inserting the SD Card, mount the suction cup and plug it in. No configuration done.

    The Box.

This morning I downloaded the Windows PC software. This is the main reason for picking this specific DashCam.

I changed the resolution to 720. According to the user manual I will get +-15 hours on my 64GB card. Still good quality.

Good to know about this option! My EagleEye's battery died, otherwise I would have still used it. I ended up buying a Garmin Dashcam55, but it just died for no reason after not even two months. Replaced under wty, the second one is still going strong.

Today my wife wanted to check something she saw.
Activated wifi on unit, log in via phone on the app and she could scroll thru the recordings

I almost forgot about this one.

Not much happened. I wired a 12V sig lighter holder behind the dash and all wires are now out of sight.

    .

The camera started to shake on its mounting for every unevenness in the road. It turned out that it lost the vacuum on the suction cup but it still hang on there because of some stickiness. (Maybe the heat is to blame). I wiped the window and everything clean, redid the suction cup and it is stable again.

    .

I need an outing to get some nice footage.
