Default Patrol 4,8 GRX 2012/3/4 Questions Please

    Hi Everyone

    1) What's the fuel consumption, say in town, highway at 120 and towing?? Between 5 and 6 or better/worse?

    2) Build quality, like interior - prone to rattle, or a solid drive??

    3) Issues?? If any??

    4) Then at 120 km/h, what is the RPM in top gear??

    5) How many gears, 5??

    6) Adequate torque at idle speed and low crawl work??

    Thanks......................

    Apologies, forgot to add please:

    7) Lockers, only rear?? I remember reading about some rear locker/diff issue somewhere, by the way.

    8) Good Tower?? Should be?? I'm talking about maybe once a Year heavy towing like a car on a trailer.

    9) Suspension - good enough as is, or are the upgrades (if available) worth it?? Is this a normal setup, no air thingies, just coils/shocks?

    THANKS AGAIN

Aplologies for yet another Post............In short, give me the reason(s), if any, why I should NOT consider a 2013 4,8 GRX with 70 000 Km and FSH at R 280 000 please. Yes, 70 000 km, and yes, R 280 000.

    I'm coming from a 2013 Prado 150 V6.

    I owned a 2013 4.8 for 2 years

Consumption on standard size tires in town 4.8 to 5.5 km/l
Open road you can get 6

    5 gears
    5th is an overdrive ratio.

It revs at 2200 at 120 with standard tyres

Nothing rattles on a patrol except the back door..

Things to check.. the shock on the steering column or the death wobble will be your friend and broken thumbs

The difflock actuator on the rear only is electro pneumatic and is prone to failure... mine failed and I broke my diff twice..

    Rear brake pads are scarce..

    That's it

Bargain of a life time, buy it!

The fuel consumption is displayed on the back door, 4.8.

Btw, I have never had a rattle problem, it is solid as steel!

OK..........this one is accident damaged. Only the bonnet, but ja.

But I'm gonna try test drive one, and take a looooooong hard look at it.

The GL Manual 4,8 is 1st Prize - but DAMN scarce.

My foeffenjol jeuk vir ietsie anders die keer nadat die Prado verkoop is.......my moet net NIE toetrek nie (my foeffenjol nou)

    So.....ja, baie tyd.

Die regte kar sal my kom soek, nie ek vir hom nie. Het al geleer.

I have owned two of these exact models.

Highway at 110-120kmh you will use 15l per 100km
Around town you will use 24l per 100km.

    This is driving reasonably.

As has been mentioned, the only rattle is the rear door, and thats an easy fix.
Only issue is the difflock switch. mine has bombed out again. They need to be used often it seems to keep things working. Now I just physically swop the vacuum pipes over when I really need difflock .

It will be interesting to hear your feedback after the drive. A mate of mine, whose an absolute die hard cruiser man, test drove a beaut of a 4.8 the other day and he came back very disappointed. Said he just didnt like the overall feel of it.

Rod, it was just standing around on the Floor, not even a Price Tag on it......my wife's nephew came to visit last Saturday, saw the car, I gave him a price, and that's it. Took a nice trade in, so I'm happy, and he's happy.

But no, I cant say they made a queue to buy it. Also advertised it in here and GT for quite a while. Reasonable interest yes, but ja - you bank money, not promises or interested Customers.

Still, enough interest - I think if you offer it at the right price it will sell.

Definitely ENOUGH interest - that's for sure. And understandably so, its a damn nice value for money allrounder car.

Rod just to add - keep in mind my V6 was nice, but it had almost 140kkm on, I was the 3d owner, the left rear door has been resprayed.......so it wasnt exactly "mint, 1 owner. low mileage, faultless" nick. And no extras.
