It is still early days. I only did a few hundred kms.

You get what you paid for. It is old technology. But it works.

I will update after a month or so.

Please do. Im interested in the power delivery, I know its less then the new bakkies but can you at least keep 130km/h most of the time and how does it tow?

I use my 2.5 TD (2x4) D/C with canopy for work purposes only. I deliberately went for the NP300 because its old school and does not have too much expensive electrinics. The other motivation was of coarse the price tag. I will not mention it here, but with my specific vehicle sceme it costs me less per month than most people here pay for their cell phones per month. I kid you not. An absolute bargain for me.

It keeps to 130 km/h easily, no problem. I do not drive that fast though, in order to obtain a better fuel consuption.

I sometimes drives from Bloemfontein to Clarens in the Eastern Free State which includes a lot of up ad down hill and if there were no slow traffic it will be possible to stay in 5th gear all the way and easily maintain 120 km/h at least.

    My driving speed at 110 km/h speedo/100 km/h GPS return around 11.5 km/l or 8.68 l/100km. Best consumption at 110 km/h open road without canopy was 12.74 km/l or 7.84 l/100km

I tow a Jurgens XT 140 off road camping trailer from time to time. This is a heavy trailer equipped with run in brakes.

I must admit that I do feel that trailer but I carry on at my usual speed with an everage consuption of around 9.5 km/l.

I can concur with the above as mentioned by Viertrek - the 2.5 TD will easily maintain 130 km/h on the highway. I very seldom go much over 110 km/h (I am a very rustige driver) - but the few times I have the NP300 has had no issues and in fact seems to enjoy stretching it's legs.

The engine is old technology, slightly noisier than the new generation TD's, the vehicle is basic but it is a good honest hard working bakkie that will do what it is expected to. I recently did a trip to Botswana and Namibia in my NP300 - the last time I went I was in an 80 series Cruiser. I was very impressed by the NP300, it did everything I would have done in the Cruiser and never once let me down.

The YD25DDTi used in this NP300 is around 100kW and 300Nm.

So very comparable to the TD5. But a lighter body @ 1725kg versus 2175kg unladen.

Tyre diameter will however determine the 5th speed cruising capability. The peak power is at lower revs than the TD5, so it doesn't help to make this engine overrev as this will just chew diesel and could cause EGT issues. Sweet spot will be around 3000rpm.

Correct. Max power is 98 kW at 3600 rpm and 304 nm at 2000 rpm.

Turbo lag not to bad but once you reach 2000 rpm you veel that proverbial kick in the bud as it revs up very quickly till way past 3000 rpm.

110 km/h in 5th gear see the revs a bit high at around 2600 rpm and 120 at just under 3000 rpm. Yes, for highway cruise, revs in the range of 3000 rpm works well.

The 2.5 TD D/C (more pasenger oriantated) have a slightly longer gear ratio in 5th gear for slightly lower revs, and a little higher speed but obviously a little less power than the single cab long wheel base (langbak) models.

When you floor it past 2000 rpm you can hear that unmistacable Navara sound. And I just love it.

It obviously cannot compare to the new technological wonders but it is good enough for me as a honest workhorse bakkie.

Yes! It does sound good. And coming down through the gears when decelerating is just as good.

When I drove out the Nissan showroom the other day, my first stop was the tyre shop.... +- 1km down the road. Put some 265/75/16 Cooper ST Maxx. (standard is 245/70/16)

Took it for a few km open road this morning. Indicated 120km/h is 121km/h on the GPS @ just below 3000rpm. (I still need to check the odo)

For all practical calculations, from now on, I will take the indicated speed as true speed and 1000rpm per 40km/h in 5th. Calculated it should do 160km/h @ 4000rpm in 5th.

Just below 130km/h @ 3200rpm would be a sweet spot for long distance cruising (if the road conditions allows).

I enjoy this thing more and more.

The other day I gave mine a quick "Free State tune-up" on the freeway and it went past 160 km/h on the speedo quickly and easily. OK that was before I fitted the canopy.

Did not push it all the way though.

In comparrison. I previously owned a Hardbody 3.0 16VTD in 2x4 D/C with exactly the same canopy and it's top speed on a level road was 175 km/h on the speedo. Fuel consumption on the 3.0L at 110 km/h speedo was on average 10.8 km/l or 9.25 l/100km.
