Default Knife makers on the forum?

Are there any knife makers on the forum?

I want to have 3 knives made from high carbon steel but there is a small problem. Myself, my father and my brother are all above 6ft6 and consequently have piesangs vir fingers". Because of this I've never been able to find a utility knife that didn't feel like a toothpick in my hand.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I will be forever grateful.

My Father in law makes knives in Sasolburg. If you would like to make contact, send me a PM and I will forward his details to you. He is not on the forum though.

There's a guy on Facebook, based in Stellenbosch I think, and I think also associated with GOSA - Tim Flack. His work is really brilliant. Doubt that he's on here, but easy enough to find on facebook.

Do yourself a favour and get to the Brooklyn Knife show mid November in Pretoria. Lot's of knife makers and knives for you to touch and feel.

It costs me a fortune every year

Just a word of caution...do you know that high carbon steel needs lots of love and attention? I learned the hard way....

What happened to the guy from Mosselbay that used to make knives, "Suikersteen" I think?

    He made some beautiful ones.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Unfortunately I avoid knife expos as I'll blow my salary in less than 2 hours.

I got a couple of high carbon knives frim my grandfather before he passed including a damascus kitchen knife. They are the best knives I ever owned and keep their edges way longer than SS. But they were liberated during a burglary.

I got in contact with Pietsweis's father in law, time to start a new collection.

Good advice, but the members of KGSA are the really top flite knife makers and a knife from one of them will cost! You can try ELS Knives (Rustenburg) who makes lovely high quality knives
