Now I see a few of you have done this trip before, but I would love to do this once we are free again haha(after the lockdown) maybe we can do a group day trip and enjoy the day with family and friends?

    anyway, stay safe and positive

yes, it is a GDB file, typically used in mapsource and basecamp.

the details and waypoints make it difficult to screenshot with clarity. The map also covers tracks from Dullstroom to Klerksdorp, do you have a particular area in mind?

I have converted it to a GPX file, maybe that would help?

I managed to install a GPX viewer on my phone, so lets try that.

However, perhaps you can share some portions in a way that makes the most sense.

    Or whatever your favourites are.

PS - will ask my dad, he might have one of the two.

Couldnt find the impalas and giraffes etcs...but suspect they must be in the bushy area near parys?

Rain started to pour harsh in Parys so we just drowned a draught and head back via freeway.

Want to setup a convoy so we can drive it together sometime? Have a little play/fun. Will upload pictures...excuse my my dirty vehicle :-)

Sorry for not uploading pics earlier oopsie. Here is two of them. I would attemt the road when its nice and muddy again...not dry-ish otherwise it will be a normal gravel exploring...the muddy part of the road made it more interesting- thats my opinion.

I have done this route a couple of times on the bike and it is a very relaxed ride when dry. When it rains the mud monster rises its ugly head and then you may get some strange looks in the higher class eating establishments once(or if) you make it to Parys.

No worries if you are in a 4x4.

I love this thread guys --- doing long trips using a minimum of tarmac is one of my little hobbies. I'm always ready for a getaway, and luckily I'm flexible for weekdays or weekends If anyone is keen on a trip hit me up for sure. I do both 4x4 and bike. The only thing is I do it for the peace and quiet and solitude so I dont like big groups. Me and 1 or 2 other vehicles max.

Most of my planning is done on Google Earth, with an occasional route someone else gives me ... which I then check out on google earth

WRT Clarens - yes absolutely doable with only a little tarmac near jhb and again near clarens... I was last in that area a few years back, and the roads south of bethlehem are full of rocks embedded in the dirt, no problem on a bike but a bit of a tooth-rattler in a 4x4. No dirt many dirt roads options between clarens & fouriesburg.
