Default Terrain Response System Not Available

Howzit guys, I'd really appreciate if someone can help me.

    I have a 2008 Freelander 2 HSE.

I'm getting the following error on my display: "Terrain Response System Not Available".
Sometimes it will randomly show "Special Programs Off".

    What could this be?

A year ago I had the same issue and eventually my car wouldn't start. Turned out it was some computer fault but I wish I could recall exactly what.
I paid about R2000 for Land Rover Durban to fix it and now it's giving me this message again. Could it be the same issue or something else?

I'm trying to avoid taking it in because I'm so low on money at the moment.

Any help would be so massively appreciated!

    Thanks so much.

Hi, I’ve been reading up on this issue and found some good articles about it.
I’m not an auto electrician or any expert, so just keep reading up on the Internet for my own education.

However, you need to have the ecu scanned for fault codes, you can do this with an OBD2 scanner. It will give you a fault code which you can then ‘google’. The cheap ones do the trick and work with your smart phone via OBD2 apps.

From what I read there could be a few reasons for the fault:
    1. Faulty wiring, like a break in the wiring from chaffing between the terrain response module and the ecu, or
    2. Loose earth or positive on the terrain response module

According to the article the least likely is a faulty terrain response module.
