Smile High milage 200 series Cruisers as first 4x4

    Good day members

As per the title I would appreciate long time 200 series owners or if you have recently bought a higher milage vehicle owners, to weight in WRT their experience of this magnificent beast. My brother has tracked down a very clean one with somewhat service history at a very remarkable price, but its done 350 000 kms.

As always thank you in advance to all that reply this forum really is my go to source of information

If it has a full service history and the price is right I'd go for it.

I have no experience with this specific vehicle but in my humble opinion it's a gamble buying any high mileage common rail turbo diesel. If you are lucky you might get another 100 000 kms out of it before you need to start replacing injectors and possibly turbos etc. Also remember that this is still a million rand vehicle and will be very expensive to fix if it does break.

FSH gives some piece of mind but it's no guarantee that the #### wont hit the fan - my 3.0 d4d hilux has a full service history with Toyota and I have had to do the clutch, injectors, turbo, starter motor and tie rod ends and the bakkie is only on 180 000 kms. I will not drive a common rail turbo diesel outside of warranty again.

    1HD-FTEEdit

The 1HD-FTE is a 4.2 L (4,164 cc) straight-6 24 valve turbocharged diesel engine. Bore and stroke is 94 mm 100 mm (3.70 in 3.94 in), with a compression ratio of 18.8:1. Output is 164 hp (122 kW; 166 PS) at 3,400 rpm with 380 N⋅m (280 lb⋅ft) of torque at 1,400 rpm. The fuel system is direct injection, and adopts the electronic fuel injection (EFI) system. Redline of this engine is at 4200 rpm.
Yea its not a high pressure common rail system in fact spares for this specific model seem pretty reasonable

I went to test drive just such a hi mileage Cruiser before buying my Prado . The LC was a one owner behemoth that was still as solid as a rock but I found it too lazy for my liking
When faced with the dilemma of being right or being happy , I choose happy every time

Don't know what price you're looking at, but I'm guessing it is a 2008 or 2009 model. If you're willing to look at a 10 year old vehicle you might get a 120 Prado for the same price with less mileage.
    Current: Touareg V6 TDi
Ex: Discovery 4 V8 - Sold at 149 000 km. Awesome vehicle, but a bottomless pit.
Ex: Fortuner D4D - Best vehicle I've owned Sold at 267 000 km.
    Ex: Hilux 2.7i - sold at 241 000 km.
    Ex: Hilux D4D - sold at 330 000 km.

1HD-FTE was found in the late 80 series and 100 series. Never in a 200. The 1VD-FTV is the motor you are thinking of.

To my knowledge the 200 use a v8 diesel
    2011 FJ Cruiser
    2018 Hilux 2.4 4x4 D/C
    Afrispoor Serval
