    Default TD5 traction control fitment

Has anyone here ever retrofitted traction control to the TD5 defenders (Pre2006).

im wondering if the unit from the D2 won’t be able to work in the defender, seeing as the TD5s hubs are already “ready” to accept wheel speed sensors, as it was sold in other markets with ABS and TC, my 2004 TD5 even had the wiring in place, I always assumed it was a model meant for export, and then ended up being sold here, so they just removed the ABS, but left the wiring in place.

D2 ABS pumps should be pretty cheap from the scrap dealers these days.

im guessing it will need activation on the ECU

I was under the impression the TD5 Defender came with the TC active?

only late models, some very late 05s and 06 year models. Just before the Puma was launched. We built the Defender in SA at that stage that was exported to Aus, and they were shipped with traction control/abs from 2001 I think

I'm sure it's doable but better with a Defender modulator and ABS ECU not a D2 one... though it means a lot of work and proper knowledge to install the modulator and wire in the ABS ECU with all the inputs it needs.

so is the ABS ECU on the Defender TD5 and the Disco 2 TD5 not the same? I would also have thought it would be a plug and play, seeing as the Defender was built with ABS and Traction Control, we just never got that in our market. I’m sure the inputs into the main wiring loom should be plug and play, and wiring in 4 wheel speed sensors into the ABS ECU is not exactly rocket science

The D2 and Defender ABS ECUs are different:
    1. https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.p...__abs_defender
    2. https://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.p...cu_discovery_2 and it's not only about wiring in the sensors into the ECU but to wire in the modulator too and connect the ABS ECU to the engine ECM cos it needs rpm input from it...or does the ABSless defender have a modulator fitted ? like this https://www.ecutesting.com/product-c...ody/avb004106/ which has to be connected to the master cylinder and ABS ECU and all the brake pipes into it cos that's how TC is managed

ja what I said on another thread: by the time you've finished reinventing the wheel, you would have spent more than the price of an Ashcroft at the back and a Lokka on the front I reckon

But if it's an intellectual exercise and money is no object.........

Jelo, this I would do the other way around, due to the Lokka being in a locked position all the time.
