    Question Marc-Isuzu

    Hi All

I have just reconditioned my Isuzu 280 turbo diesel steering pump year 1999 things replaced
the bearing , the main seal , the little oil seals, circlip one thing I did not check was the power steering oil (spec to Dextron2) I used just normal red ATF
The issues I have presently Is that the steering is very hard when stationary , when moving its fine

Has any one experience the same over the years and what's the solution to fix it please

    Ta

Hi Mark. Welcome to the forum. Is the steering hard stationary with the engine running?

    Hi
The steering is hard while the van is stationary and while its running, but moving, running - driving its fine

Sounds like there's air in the system.

Try lifting the front wheels off the ground and turning the steering wheel from lock to lock a couple of times while the engine is running.

Make sure the reservoir is full.

If that doesnt work, there should be a bleeding valve/nipple on top of the steering box (assuming your Isuzu still has a steering box??). Open that one a bit, attach a pipe to catch the oil that spills out and give the steering a couple of turns while the engine is running. CAREFUL!!! The reservoir can run empty quite quickly, so keep an eye on that.

There are Youtube videos on how to do that.

Worked very well on my Landy, had the same issue there after a power steering pump replacement.

    Good luck!
