    Question Sanparks wildcard

2 Pensioners planning to travel Western Cape, Karoo, parts of Northern Cape and next year Kalagadi and visit most of the parks.
Is it sensible to buy All Parks Wildcard and will rhis really save us money?

Conservation fees is R100 per person per day. All Parks Wildcard is R1055 for a couple. So if you are going to spend more than 10 days in a national park in a year, yes it will save you money.

They always have Wildcard discount on Black Friday.

Yes, it's worth every cent if you spent regular time in SANParks.

As far as I understand and we have it for the past 6 years:
    - The saving on the conservation fee is per entrance and not per day (as above) in the park. For every entry you save on the fee. Thus, you save if you enter the parks more than five times (being two persons), irrespective of the periods staying inside.

This reads as "daily" conservation fees: https://www.sanparks.org/tourism/tariffs/

It did change recently though to be PER DAY and not longer PER NIGHT like it was calculated before. So one night's stay will incur two days' fees. For example, for the Kruger it is R93 per person per day, so for two people sleeping one night it's R372. Adds up quickly.

EDIT: OOOOOOOH wait wait, I re-read your post and I misunderstood it, sorry. Ignore my above

Sanparks fees letter for 2020 clearly states 'Daily Conservation fee' and Adult/day & Child/Day.

I can also remember paying conservation fee for 4 days at Marakele 2 years ago as our Wildcard had expired.

But hey, I could be reading wrong.

Per day and there are different fees for each park. Do not buy a Wildcard in advance, but when you enter the first park... valid for a year.

I just buy at the sanparks park when it has expired ; eg buy it at the counter of the park we enter ; and yes it has been very convenient and saved us money on trips across the country except in KZN reserves where isimangaliso is the admn authority eg mkhuze, sodwana .

If you are going to be visiting various SANPB sites during the next year across the country then it is most certainly in your interest to buy a membership!

NOTE: Different rates apply to international members, but if they are spending more than just a few days in RSA then it is well worth it for them as well.
    Also valid in Swaziland (E-Swatini).

The conservation fees otherwise payable are per day per person unless it has changed since May this year!??

Beware of updating or planning on buying your Wildcard subscription when only entering the reserve - they may very well be offline (computer or mobile) - then you will have to pay the full fees irrespective that you may be willing to but an update or new membership.
It is quite a process to recover costs if you did not have a confirmation of membership letter with you at the time.

Much better to have the Wildcard in place year by year if you are going to be a regular traveler into those areas or will spend a couple of weeks in the one or the other of the SANPB reserves.

I would like an update if this situation has changed.
I have had a Wildcard for very many years (Couple - RSA National option) and never had reason to doubt the economics of it at all.

If you are just visiting for a few days once off per year or even less frequently then your figures would calculate differently and maybe you should just pay the daily conservation fees.
Answering the call of the wild is just so much beter than answering the telephone.

    Elsabe,
Ek hernu my kaart soos ek hom nodig kry sodat hy vir 'n volle jaar daarna geldig is. Die kaart self het jy nie nodig nie en kan jy later deur die pos kry. Net jou kaart- lidmaatskapnommer of ID is voldoende wanneer jy hom wil gebruik.

You can buy online or at the gates.

They no longer send you a physical card, it works on ID number.

We renewed last year November on Black Friday sale as we normally know when/if we will visit a national in the next 12 months which for the current validity was Dec 2018 and April 2019. We will only visit a Sanpark park again in Dec 2020 so will again renew if possible on Black Friday 2020.

Bit off topic, just for general info on how it works for us.

Yes, this is for more than 80 parks. Not just SanParks. You will also be able to access Cape Nature parks in the WC, and others around the country that are not SanParks, for free with this card.
Excellent value for money. I usually make my money back in the first 6 months.

Yes. The price difference between the All Parks & Sanparks for ecample is not all that much.

Definitely worth it. A valid point made about parks being off line. First year we bought just printed off wild card confirmation letter as hadn't received the card and it was accepted by all parks we entered, no hassle at all.

That's absolutely nonsense. You save all conservation feed for a year. 5 days spent in a park as a couple and you've paid the card off.

You save consevation fees PER DAY and your savings depends on which park you stay... conservation fees are NOT THE SAME for all parks.
