    Default WJ 2004 - P0702 Error code

    Hi all,
I have again the P0702 error code, the vehicle is in limp mode. After using the diag tools, I have following faults:
    N3 input rpm sensor
    ID51 transmission slipping

Does someone know how to repair this? I need your help as here in Madagascar, we do not have any jeep specialist. I have to import the parts if needed.

    Thanks in advance,
    Stefan

Check the connections to the transmission sensors - 545rfe has two on the R/H side of the 'Box (input- and output speed sensors) and one on the left - (pressure sensor) Replace all 3 if necessary - they are relatively cheap. (Available from Interspares - https://interspares.co.za/ )

Thanks DC Polokwane for your quick reply, I will check first and then see if they need to be replaced, but I had a look on the interspares website and could not find which one I should order. If you can assist please.

    Stefan

    Hi DC Polokwane,
I am sorry to revert back to you as the transmission on Grand Cherokee 2004 is not the same as on the picture you send, the places and the type of the sensor are quite different, I try to find any other how-to videos on youtube but no luck until now.

Which model do you have? Is it the 2.7 with the Merc box?

    Try Sakkie

He's forgotten more about those boxes than many have yet to learn.

Was the battery drained recently? The vehicle jump started, or the vehicle towed?
Does the vehicle have a issue to start?

No starting issue, the battery was replaced a few months ago.

How many Km's on the clock and when last was the gearbox oil changed?

Disconnect the battery terminals for 10 minutes and check if the whole lot reset.
Those fault codes could be very old.
Check the plug/ electrical cables at the gearbox entry for oil leaks.
Open the top of the selector/ gearshift and clean.
Cam position sensor could be loose, wire off or bad connection.

I have the whole manual available if you wish.

    Hi Pieterk,
165.000 km but I think it is more as it is a second hand from Korea, the gearbox oil was changed last year in September.
It would be very helpful if you can send me the whole manual at stefan.andri[email protected], I will check the cables but it is better if I can follow the manual.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,

For all gearbox related stuff I use this website:

    https://jeepswj.com/

He specialises in the 2.7 and its foibles!

I had a p0702 that I couldn't trace that turned out to be 2 failed wheel speed sensors confusing everything. I highly recommend downloading his professional software, it was about 18 so cheap as chips. You can correctly diagnose and if you have any difficulty the guy that runs the site is super helpful

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi Simon,
I got the WJdiag with the BT ELM32, it shows P2203 ID 13 Transmission speed sensor 3 Defective circuit / Open circuit / Short circuit
Any idea of what should be checked or replaced?
    Thanks,
    Stefan
