The Chev conversion might have detracted from the purist value but it does look like an SIII

Apparently not running, but (VERY) honest and str8 4 ward Seller thinks its a carb/coil/etc etc issue. Couldnt be a huge issue methinks - Oom Gys will have that sorted in NO time8)

    Pity about the wrong motor.

At a guess, just to get the ball rolling and some other guys ideas, I would say R30k max?

Just asking.........Guys, if this is reasonably rust free and so on, is it a HUGE job to restore?? Or rather, HAVE it restored?? I cant do it, will have to outsource everything.

Or not really a candidate for that, with the numbers having been changed on the Papers etc etc already??

I think just tell me "NO".................Please

Petri, if the bodywork has been cutaway and other alterations made to accommodate the Chev motor, bell-housing etc, it could be quite a bit to restore to original. However, I think that there could be more value as a game viewer or plaas/hunting vehicle or toy for weekends, to a particular end user.

The Series specialists will be able to advise but I think they would need to see the engine bay, bulkhead and other body areas such as trans tunnel etc

Hmmm......Id say about 30/35 Estee, IF running (well). It has papers etc etc, and winch, dual aircon as Johnny pointed out, an incredibly powerful Chev 4,1 str8 six, brown vinyl with matching coachwork (not body - coachwork, this is an English car), amongst other features..........too numerous to mention

Petri, firstly, always remember that my advise is for free, the expenses start when you use it...

The Chev 4.1 was a common conversion, Gilo made an adapter plate to fit the Series gearbox. The combination of the 4.1 and S3 gearbox and diffs could pull away with half a block of flats attached to the rear bumper - problem was that they used to chow their gearboxes and rear diff/side shafts for breakfast. Therefore check the 'box (especially jumping out of 4th), diff for backlash and side shafts for spline wear.

There's a difference between "restoring" and "re-building to original" (but you know that). Restoring a S2 shorty cost Gary Frank's customer about R300K about 2 years ago - but that was a ground-up, nuts and bolts restoration job.

The bakkie is the least sought after Series Landy. Getting hold of a good 2.25 motor will cost you about R10K. If the chassis was butchered to fit the 4.1 - you'll have to do your own sums there.

VERY important: Check for rust in/on the firewall, rear chassis cross-member and all 8 points where the leaf springs attach to the chassis. You'll probably find that the chassis number (left-hand side of the vehicle, in front of the front shackle point for the front diff) is gone, as in most Series vehicles that piece of chassis could already have been replaced.

I agree that the bakkie (as it is) can be worth R30K. Series prices have reached stoooooopid hights since the Defender went off the market. People are paying good money for totally knackered pieces of crap - just 'cause it has papers.

    Thanks baie Etienne

Definitely a Series III (plastic grille, position of headlights etc). The wing mirrors look as though they are from a 110, not original. As Etienne says, the Chev conversion is powerful, but chews gearboxes and half shafts, the Bell housing conversion is particularly problematic. Series IIIs that have been modified are not worth a great deal of money. I would keep it as a toy, unless you are prepared to throw serious money at it.
