Atlantis dunes

Hi
A few work colleagues and I want to go play at Atlantis dunes on 5 October. 2019.
We have not been there before, so I have some questions re the permits.
PS.. some of the guys had never 4x4'd before.
How do I go about getting a permit for driving at Atlantis.
Can it be purchased at the gate or do I have to go somewhere else.
What is the price?

Hi yes you can purchase permits at the gate and they are R196 per vehicle if I remember correctly

I would suggest that you have a briefing session with all the drivers of the vehicles and explain critical sand driving techniques such as:

• lower tyre pressures to greatly improve traction and reduce track erosion
• drive smoothly with gear changes at high revs
• ensure wheels are pointing straight ahead when taking off
• avoid the soft sand at the base of dunes and gullies
• make turns as wide as possible
• ONLY travel straight up or down dunes
• follow in others tire tracks to drive on compressed ground
• avoid braking by coasting to a stop
• do not floor the accelerator if you are bogging down
• when bogged, try to reverse on your own tracks To name but a few
