    Default Hobby park krugersdorp trail

    Hi guys,

weíre planning on doing the hobby park trail on Sunday.

Has as anyone been there lately? What can we expect? I get the idea itís quite mild and it shouldnít break too much of a sweat? Or am I wrong.

    Thanks!

    Hi Graham
I was there earlier this year.
The route behind the mountain can be a bit rough, and some of the well known obstacles have been worn out, and will keep you busy. The route was not clearly marked when we were there and finding the route was difficult

If you try the obstacles as they are, they can be tricky due to the condition of the track

    All have escape routes.

It used to be the Bosvark 4x4 track

This was one of the more challenging obstacles: Obstacle 10: Survivor

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WimC0DwLCVE

If you search YT for Bosvark 4x4 you will see a number of obstacles but the track has changed over the years and of course it will be quite dry now.

Not a bad place, was there a few months ago. It has worn out a bit but still fun nonetheless. I snapped my right side side shaft in my willys while climbing the mountain at the back. Managed to get up all the way..Only realized it was broken when I got home..
Nice place to braai and to chill afterwards..

Graham, overall its a nice day out and you can opt for the obstacle course at the start or a leisurely drive on tracks that would be similar to an overland trip. There are a number of areas like the Survivor but you can opt out of those or do a few.
Good braai areas and the main building can supply cold refreshments.

I was thinking of popping in on Sunday as i am having a complete transmission service done tomorrow at RDG and wanted to give it a work out.

It was a nice day out!
the Patrol just makes things far too easy though, didnít even break a sweat .

The fortuner and hilux had some slipping on the shale which resulted in some interesting vehicle angles (and my heart in my throat watching it), and the stock hilux gave its nudge bar a good beating.

The only one we didnt do was that number 10 though. I just cannot see how that can be done at the moment, it looks totally impossible.

    Yip

That last slab and sloot right at the top, just get you at both ends. I would predict a serious slide to the left when you reach that point. And at those angles..... it would not end well.

The first time I did it was in a V8 D1 when I was just starting out and didnt know any better and had the wife, 2 toddlers and my MIL and BIL in the vehicle with only CDL and no Traction Control. It was only later when I had learned more that I realised how serious that was

I have done it in Range Rovers since then but wheel base on those last steps is a contributor.

The Hummer with FDL, CDL and RDL manages okay, similar to a Rubicon

Sorry I couldnt make it yesterday

It builds up a lot of lose stuff in the dry. Good rains normally clean it all out. Its not too different to when I first did it in @ 2002 or 2003 but more overgrown on the lead in and the sides.

Last did it about 6 months ago. It still has a Sphincter Factor of 10/10

I was new to the Hummer so wanted to check its boundaries
