    Default Birds of Australia

I have recently emigrated to Australia and have settled in nicely in Gladstone, Queensland. I could not leave my hobby of bird watching and photography in SA, so I've started my list on this side as well. I currently have about 110 species ticked off and most of them are photographed as well.

I've been limited on post-processing time, but here are some of my best pictures to date:
    1. Red-backed Fairy-Wren (male)
    2. Rainbow Bee-eater (as you might have guessed)
    3. Blue-faced Honeyeater
    4. Rainbow Lorikeet
    5. Comb-crested Jacana

    This is great!

I would really like learn a bit more about the birds down here (I live in Hobart, Tasmania). My wife and I spend a fair amount of time in the bush and while I'm not a huge birder, I do find it frustrating when I have no idea of any of the birds I see. In SA I used to have the Sasol bird app which was great for helping to identify birds, would you recommend anything similar for Aus?

    Cheers

Hi Duggen, I have bought the "Morcombe's Birds of Australia" app (pic attached) and the user interface is exactly the same as the Sasol guide in SA. Unfortunately it doesn't give the option of buying photos as an add-in extra. I miss the photos from the Sasol app.

A friend gave me a book-version bird guide before I came, so the two guides (together with a Google image search now and again) complement each other well!

A bit of a distraction from my birding hobbies recently:

My wife has given birth to an Aussie! Proud...

    A little sheila she is!

Correct, made in the Freestate, but because both parents have permanent residency, she gets citizenship automatically (quite conveniently).
