If you take the backroads to Herbertsdale, you can stay on gravel all the way into Calitzdorp. Between Van Wyksdorp and Calitzdorp is the Rooiberg Pass. The road between Ruiterbos and Herbertsdale has some very nice scenery - take it slow and gentle! ( you will drive past our little farm on that road.)

In Calitzdorp, you can visit Pat Calitz on the Du-Swaroo winery ( In Calitz Street!) She is a cousin!

From Calitzdorp you can head for Oudshoorn and back to George on the N12 - should a good day on the road.

Obviously you must cross the outeniqua mountains on gravel. Drive to Knysna around the lakes and passes.
Phantom pass homtini pass and a few others.

Go to Uniondale and again cross the outeniquas on Gravel between Uniondale and Knysna.

Enjoy love my old stomping grounds.

If you take the Montagu Pass up to Herold, then turn right towards Uniondale and immediately left on gravel. Carry on to Dysselsdorp. This time of year the aloes should be in bloom. Then have a coffee at De Rust, carry on towards Prince Albert, overnight and go via Swartberg Pass back to Oudshoorn.

If you take Peets route, visit Jakkalsvlei https://jakkalsvlei.co.za/

Good food, wine and beer. Best wine pairing.
