Default Isuzu 250 diesel help required

Bumped into an old friend of mine briefly this morning. He has got the above mentioned vehicle that suddenly cut out. Now it starts up but dies immediately. Apparently he cant get it to idle or rev. Says he has changed filters.

Where or what could a person look at to try resolve?

Did this start before or after changing the filter? I had the same on a forklift once after I changed the diesel filter. It would start but die almost immediately. Turns out that the old filter's rubber gasket stayed behind on the housing, and I did not notice it. Having two rubber gaskets on one filter housing does not work.

Thanks for the response, as far as I can gather filters were changed afterwards. Will check though and make sure.

Find out if ANYTHING significant happened immediately before the symptoms started.

    - dodgy fuel station: filled just before
    - service
    - etc

    What year model?

    D-Max or older?

It could be the dds unit on the back of the injector pump. They tend to rattle loose with time. If you push it in again and hold it the vehicle should start.

I also still own one of those old war horses (1989 model).

I once had a problem where it did crank but did not start.

Put new fuel filter in but still did not start.

In the end I removed the water trap.
On top inside the water trap is a simple valve made out of a thin brass plate. I found alge floating on top of the survace of the diesel and which clogged this valve and prevent fuel from going to the diesel pump.

Cleaned out the water trap, pump the trap till the piston is hard ( water trap filled) and the Isuzu started first time.

Also check for cracks in rubber fuel line ends where it fits over metal tubes. They tend to parrish there and then suck air.

    Hope this help.

To add to this, one of the metal tubes of my 1989 war horse (just like yours) cracked in a not too visible place once, and obviously it sucks air through the crack, resulting in revs dying away, and you going nowhere. Pratley putty was a quick fix until I got to a place where somewhere brazed it. as far as I know, it still lasts.

Check the reedvalve inside the liftpump/filter housing. Be careful its very thin and fragile. As per viertrek.

Thanks for this Pieter, however I am a tad clueless about Isuzu. When you say check the reedvalve what exactly am I looking for?
