It's the norm for most rental companies these days due to the ammount of vehicles they lose. I have recovered rental vehicles with less than 5000km on. So obviously these guys need to cover themselves. Make sure you read the small print. Quite a few of the rental companies no longer offer cover as soon as you go off road. Or if you go 10kmph over the speed limit. Honestly, cant really blame them if you look at the cost of vehicles etc these days.

[QUOTE=HugoNotte;4230161]Maybe. But I know to take such "reviews" with a large pinch of salt. After all you only hear one side of the story, if you tend to believe those who scream the loudest, then Asco is probably awful.
A few more reviews I have quickly googled:
    https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.ascocarhire.com
    https://www.facebook.com/pg/AscoCarHire/reviews/

Just to add my two cents. I have b gone through a negotiation with ASCO for a 15-day rental in Namibia. the price was attractive, the quality of their vehicle looked OK, but we couldn't accept their terms and conditions. Please read their "internal" speed limit stipulations very carefully and decide if you are willing to live with that. Their company speed limits are lower than those posted on the highways and have a built-in tracking system in all their vehicles. If you exceed the company speed limit anywhere or anytime, your insurance becomes void (not at that time, but for the entire trip). Here is the exact wording:

    Speed Limit
Within city limits and in National Parks: 60 km/hour, Gravel roads: 80 km/hour and Highways: 120 km/hour.
ACH speed regulations do overrule road signs indicating 100 km/hr. At 85 km/h or 125 km/h the vehicle makes a “beep” tone, indicating that the driver is driving over the maximum speed allowed on gravel roads or highways, whichever one applies. Please be informed that all our vehicles are equipped with a GPS Tracking Black Box.
IMPORTANT: If you exceed this speed limit all insurances and Reduced Excesses lapse and become invalid.

I'm confused - the speed limits posted by Asco are correct for Namibia (60 game parks - (it's actually 40 on minor roads); 80 gravel (except where signposted otherwise); 120 highway). Go over 80 on gravel and you are seriously risking your life. Connect with a kudu or warthog at any speed on a highway and you are in serious trouble. Just about every time I travel through Namibia, I encounter rolled hired 4x4s, mostly on gravel roads, and I have rentals speeding past me as I trundle along at 80km/h. I just shake my head and wonder whether or not the drivers have a death wish.

Asco did it because they lost one year 10% off their vehicles.

You can speed if you want but then no payment from their insurance company.

And yes this is the correct speed limits for Namibie.

I also fail to see the problem. The speed limits are correct and fair.

Why the need to go faster than that and why should the rental company carry all the risk if someone is in a hurry which is 99% of the time due to bad trip planning and trying to do to much.

It is not only the risk of an accident and the vehicle being written off, but constant abuse at high speeds on bad dirt roads places huge wear and tear on the entire vehicle shortening it's and it's components lifetimes.
