I had a prado 90 then a 120 (V6) and currently a 150 (V6) , I'm looking for a nice 2008/9 low mileage (sub 150kkm) 120 V6 again, that'll be the last car I buy in my life, they are absolute stunning stunning vehicles. Nothing comes close to it, but unfortunately they are hens teeth in the condition I'm looking for, silver with beige leather vx

Touareg, but Iím biased. Also depends where you are located. If in Gauteng you have access to Stephan and Tim, which will ensure you can maintain it nicely. If you are further away and reliant on dealerships or general mechanics, then rather something more conventional.

If I must buy something to keep for a very long time I will stay far away from low sales volume brands.

Imagine, you need gearbox or camshaft components twenty years down the road. Which will be easier to obtain, Ford, Toyota and Nissan or Mitsubishi, Amarok and Fiat/Jeep?

Safest buy is FJ or Prado.

Nothing wrong with the Amarok. I just will not buy secondhand without a motor plan and warranty. Two of my friends had to replace heads on 2.0l Amaroks at around 200k km. Only a cool R100k jobbie.

Buy a new VW or any other new high tech vehicle and sell at 100k km or out of warranty.
It is not what you buy its what you build.

I might be going the same route within a year or so. The NP300 is the only new bakkie thats still rugged. Swambo didnt like it untill I showed her this pic. She said now that still looks like a real bakkie. These other new ones looks like a woman with too much make up. 😀

There were some threads here about Navaras towing off-road trailers/caravans. That may be of interest to you if you will be towing.

I would not read too much into this comment. If you search for Hilux bent chassis you get loads of hits, Triton - loads of hits, Nissan as well even the unbreakable Cruiser 79 gives you hits. If you use the vehicle within it's designed limits you will be okay.

The D22 chassis of the NP300 is miles stronger than the new Nav in my opinion. Not even close to being the same thing.

I sure hope they made the rear of the bakkie better than the front.

Put a snorkel and decent bumper on any of the new bakkies and they look the part. Stock standard the NP300 isn't going to win a beauty contest either.

At least in a modern bakkie there is a better chance of survival in case of an accident and if I had children, that would be a consideration for me.

Before now a new discussion ensues about how useful or not the NCAP test setups are, I crashed my Amarok, t-boned a truck at good speed on the highway. The front of the bakkie was totally destroyed, yet both doors still opened fine, the passenger cell was intact, unlike the NP300. That is when I decided to pay a little more attention to those things.

Cool Re: R350 000.00 What would you buy?

You could buy a 2016 Ford Everest 3.2 TDCi Limited A/T 4WD for under R 400,000.00 these days.

7 seater with electric front seats & electric collapsible 6th and 7th seats, huge moon roof, all the driverís assist bells and whistles your wife would ever need (think lane keeping assist, self parking parallel, blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, etc.), extremely comfortable drive, class-leading rear leg room space, bigger boot space, etc.

Read / watch some reviews. You wont be disappointed.

I made the mistake of having my wife drive mine around with two small children. She refused to give it back!

PLEASE listen to the above advice. After owning a Amarok with 50,000 km on it for 18 months, it spend 6 months in total at VW and eventually sold it for a 100k loss after VW admitted they dont know what is wrong. Luckily the repair costs was still under warrenty but as said i lost 100k on selling because of VW incompetence. After owning 7 VW's in my life, i will NEVER own one again.

Reading some of these generalized comments I there must be some really crazy brand owners out there.

In general, I dont read forums when making a purchase. Its all just full of personal and/or emotional opinions in a lot of cases and you tend to loose the reality from the anger

Check whats available in your price, let your wife look at them, drive them and get what she feels comfortable with using daily.
