In my experience with a D4 it is not the electronics and fancy stuff that breaks, that stuff is pretty solid.

It is the normal stuff that breaks in all cars, ie suspension parts (eg control arm bushes, etc).

My issues with the D4 have been tyres, control arm bushes (corrugated roads in Namibia, specifically Sossusvlei and Etosha), blocked air filters (even though I do have a snorkel).

    No electronic problems.

I haven't come across a broken D4 anywhere (except for tyres). Quite a few have been on trips with me, or in other groups.

Oh, and I have come across a few old Defenders with broken suspensions, one example being on Van Zyl's pass. They were in just as much trouble as anyone with a more modern vehicle. Some of these theoretical issues with the new Defender are grossly exaggerated.

The only known issue is with the V6 diesel, and that engine is not available for the new Defender.

No way! No V6 for the New Defender. Two 4 cyl turbodiesels, a 4 cyl turbo petrol and an i6 hybrid electric. I like the New Defender because I thought it was going to be an expensive boutique poser for metrosexual millennials, but the 90, 110 and 130 configurations and basic spec models shows me that Land Rover had to think and act outside of their 'premiumness' mindset.

Hmm, maybe the old Defender fans will have to move to Mahindra, they should find something there.

For myself, I took a test drive in a brand new Defender 90 diesel in 1995, and immediately ran out and bought a D1 3.9 V8, which I drove for the next 20 years without trouble.

I respect the guys who liked the old Defender, but it just wasn't for me, after all, even of you go on a serious off-road trip, you spend at least 90% (or 95%) of the mileage on tar roads.

For example, if you go to Kaokoveld and the Angolan Border, it is tar all the way to the Ruacana Dam. Etc, etc.

I love my D4, and I am sure that I will love the new Defender 110 even more.
