Never been a LR fan, but must admit I do
like this new kid on the block.

I know technology will always advance, but all the electronics worries me. This is not LR specific.

Certainly got that macho look about it.... What's it going to cost in SA, UK prices from GBP40K TO GBP80 000?

As per carmag "only indicative pricing at this stage, with the 90 starting at R830 300 and the 110 at R910 400."...

That's a lot of money to be grinding through the boondocks!

Like - but it's going to be far too removed from what it should be(cost wise) and besides that the LR brand will have to make up plenty wrt reliability imo, so I don't know..........one thing is for sure.......it's gonna sell!!

Land Rover South Africa is able to provide only indicative pricing at this stage, with the 90 starting at R830 300 and the 110 at R910 400 - from CarMag article.

My thoughts exactly.....what will no doubt be missing is that Defender ''roughness'', for want of a better word...but, who knows, a few generations from now?

    IMO it looks pretty good.

Replacing an icon is a major undertaking. We have to realize that it would never look like a vehicle designed in 1948 or something, yes the old Defenfer changed over the years but was essentially based on the old Series.

Evolution, technical growth and a design from the bottom up was bound to be DIFFERENT. LR has to incorporate stringent safety requirements around the world and try keep everybody happy at the same time.

When the Discos were released the whole world said "Not a LR," it grew on us and has grown on us.
Now the new defender is out and it is very different. Once it hits the streets and ?proves? reliability and capability the naysayers might say "well, better than expected."

The shape is not for everyone, nor is the Disco shape or the Series shape, or the old Defender shape or the RRS shape....

I was just thinking today it's a nice bit of kit but for the price and with all that tech might as well get a used range rover.

Here in swaziland who's going to fix those 85 ecus. Also one of the great things of the old defender was the ability to make it your own.

Landrover already make lots of overly complex luxury suvs. This is just another. They missed the mark with this one.

Only way this can come remotely near a genuine defender and that is all is when you get it (as a billionaire of course) take the key and give it a good solid scratch down the side. At least then one will not be paranoid about it being scratched by the rose bushes on the side of the driveway leading to the private, valued guest entrance of the flavour of the month 5 star hotel. The defender is dead - long live what it was - it is still out there and always will be.

Disco 1 and 2ís where more comfortable, luxury Defenders .

Disco 4 and 5ís are more comfortable, luxury new defenders.

Im sentimental about the old defender as we know it but exited about the new chapter.

I love the new defender, not as much as the old one though.

But how will you feel about taking through rocky tree-lined slopes that can scratch your paint? Not the same utilitarian appeal as the last, but I guess they've gotta go with the times... Might be a bit difficult to fix out in the wild - unless you're a software engineer.
