I like it, I just bought a new car 4 months ago but it has made me change my 5 year plan.

I will definitely have it in my sights in the next 2 to 3 years.

I would have loved them to bring in something to compete with the Toyota Landcruiser bakkie . For me this falls between the Discovery and a Fortuner. I think it is going to do very well and personally I would prefer this to a Discovery. I want to see it fully loaded going over serious obstacles

we all said the new discovery d4 was the same , to many computers and all the fancy stuff, for me there is nothing out there at the moment to replace my d4 v8, the d5 not to sure it does anything for me, just looks to small. the new defender will give all that back plus more. i reckon if land rover come in at the correct price, they going to take the suv market by storm.

Now we wait for the New Disco! Then JLR will be sorted.

Agree with you. In 2008, I wanted a Defender but ended with a Disco3. It could do everything I needed with a little more luxury and an auto box. The new Defender is targeting Disco3 lovers.

I bet they looked at the bakkie market, where LR has lost out a lot of market share. It's probably not worth their while.

The fact that of all land rovers new range the defender has been referred to as an all terrain supercomputer shows how far they have lost the plot. I expected new tech, independent suspension etc...but this is as far from a work horse as one can be. They should have just let the defender name die with some dignity and launched this as something else.

If a mouse even smells the wiring the car would probably have to be written off.

Does that not make it more of a disco than a defender...

Nowadays the electronics are the most reliable part of everything.

It's the other stuff that breaks.

I've had Discoveries now for 24 years, the only stuff that has failed is the normal stuff that breaks in every brand of vehicle.

No electronic issues, and nowadays the stuff is even more robust.

    Fear only lightning.

BTW, have you seen what a Mazda 2 costs nowadays ? All cars are expensive.

As a car, I like it, but not as a Defender. They are just using the name "Defender" to sell a new car in their lineup (OK I admit that it was inspired by the original Defender) but whether the naming was the right decision is debateable. Would they dare to bring out a new "Series" Land Rover and call it that? Personally the real Defender is now part of world motoring history to me. ps. the 2 door "90" looks really horrible, the 4 door I can still live with.

I like it as much as I liked the Disco 3 when it came out (the Disco 4 and onwards somehow became to bling for my liking), i.e. a really nice car that can also go to the bush from time to time.
But is it in in any way a spiritual and realistic replacement for the original Land Rover 110 and 90? (I've never liked the Defender name, so the name on the new one does not really bother me).
NO, NO, and another NO! That would take something like a grown up version of the new Suzuki Jimny.
