Default Ghanzi to Xade campsite travel time

    Hi

We were planning to drive to Xade Gate camp site tomorrow from Ghanzi and have been advised that the road is very bad and hardly used.

Anyone used it recently? Can you give me an idea of how long it might take us to drive.

We are experienced sand drivers, driving a Prado and towing an off road trailer.

    Many thanks in advance!

Sarah, greetings from your near neighbour.

Admittedly it it has been a while since Iíve travelled that road but from reports it hasnít changed much. The worst part is between New Xade and Xade, slow low -range stuff if you are towing. The road is not busy, but thatís one of the reasons youíre going into the CKGR.

Work on 6 hours for your trip to be comfortable.

We just came out from Xade, so did what will be the last 25km you will be doing tomorrow. That was a little sandy and corrugated in places but easily do-able. look out for a couple of deep potholes that can take you by surprise. Chatted with a few people who did your route last week and they had no issues. The Xade to Piper track is not in good condition.
We used the North/South cut-line to Kang to leave CKGR. It has recently been graded and in the best condition I have seen it. 60kph easily done with a little use of 4H. The first 25km down past the Okwa river bed was nowhere near as bad as in the past. Not towing, and did not need any low range.

The first 100 kms is an easy going on good gravel road, but be carefull not to overspeed, animals, cattles and uneven surfaces can cause accidents. The last 70 kms from New xade to Xade is where the delay is. But I would say 4-5 hours including some breaks.
