    Default Best solar yield yet

After 3 days of lower yield than during winter today was a turn around and my total yield shot up to the best level in 13 months.

How did others find the yield today?

My "dongle" monitors aren't working so I'm not sure.

What was your yield, and what is your set up:
    Panels?
    Inverter?
    Storage capacity?

    Cheers

This was yield this month. Inverter is SMA SB4.0 with 14 IBC Polysol 290watt RS5. Only 12 panels connected at this point. Expanding the roof to add the last 2 panels. Roof is not facing north and panels is tilted at 15 degrees. Will see what it is delivering once everything is connected. Inverter will be more efficient after the last 2 panels is added. Grid-tie system without battery backup.

So is your system powering back into the grid?
Your total PV panel count is 14??

    Solis 4G grid tied.
    No storage.
System size to cover base load and not to export. Suddenly the daily yield went up from 3.5 to 4.4kW.

You are getting a really fantastic yield.

Can you perhaps share what make and Watts of panels you have installed?

    What make inverter?

    Hi Richard

There is 14 panels but 2 of then is in the house. Would add them next weekend. So currently it is 12 panels. 2 strings of 6 panels. The inverter is set up not to export. But the prepaid meter does not trip if there is a small feed to eskom. But it does not credit for feed in.

Montly consumption is between 1200kwh to 1500kwh. Just an atempt to reduce the electrical bill.

Would add a battery inviter later.

Your system is showing consistent power generation on a daily basis.
Does your electricity demand always exceed the PV generated power? (i.e. that you never have excess power generated that isn't consumed??)
What is puzzling me is if you aren't powering excess power back into the grid where is the power being consumed?
I have the predecessor to your inverter SB4000TL-20 but have been slow to commission the system..

Well spotted. Those figures tell me that all energy generated is consumed. Either by the home or fed back into the grid.

12x265 W. AJ Panels coupled to 2x 5kVA Axpert inverters with 7.2 kVA battery bank.

Today Even better, almost 6 kW/kWh installed

For the morning. You have lots of wasted energy. This can be fixed pretty cheaply.

The inverter has been set up as: 'The inverter is set up not to export'
Does this mean the inverter switches off incoming excess PV power or does it power back into the grid but doesn't register it?

    Fluffy

I would also love to hear your solution to the "wasted" PV generated.

My plan is to connect an A/C unit to the P/V via a contactor switch?
    Would this work?

I had my best day this year on Monday - harvested 38,5 kWh. About 5kWh better than usual.

It should throttle generation from the PV. So when an inverter reports that xkWh was generated it implies that it was also consumed. The inverter has no way of knowing how much power could have been generated if it was restricted.

That reported power is going somewhere. unfortunately this is where those cheap Ellies and OWL type power monitors fall short. They cant be used (easily) to debug power flow direction so what they report is the net averaged energy flow of both directions.

Note that I use Energy and Power interchangeably, which technically is highly incorrect but much more readable for most practical purposes.
