Default Good overland / rest camps from Windhoek to Cape Town

    Hey everyone,

I'm driving down to Cape Town from Windhoek next week. Looking for recommendations for nice, clean rest camps along the way. I have a rooftop tent and prefer to camp.

Only other requirement would be decent Wifi/cell coverage as I'm working from the road. Good breakfast and showers a bonus!

    Thanks

Just before Grunau you will find White House guest farm.

    Very nice.

They have rooms, chalets, camping and already pitched canvas tent.

We use the tents, R135 with a prooer mattress and bedding.

Also between Grunau and Keetmans is Savanna lodge, also good.

Vastrap Guest Farm 5 km east of Grünau is great, just that little bit out of your way. To make the experience worthwhile you should have dinner and breakfast; Hettie's cooking is legendary... On the SA side/along N7 I'm not too clued up, sorry.

How far do you want to drive in a day ?

From Cape Town to the border is about 700km and from there to Windhoek is about 800km.

Probably going to take 3 days to make the drive so I can work in the mornings. Also, my vehicle is slow

    That gives you about 500km/day.

1st day can take you to Springbok (600km) Sleep in one of the rooms at Kokerboom Motel as the campsite is not that far from the main road. Not expensive.

2nd day takes you to Keetmanshoop (400km) but you have a border crossing. Sleep at the Messausoris campsite (not sure about wi-fi) or oherwise at Maritz ( behind Engen Garage) on the left-hand side of road just before Keetmans.

3rd day to Windhoek (500km) sleep at Urban Camp near Joe’s Beerhouse.

Try Springbok caravan site on outskirts of town, they have some grassy areas.

White House 10km north of Grunau is a good place, camping as well as rooms. Decent wi fi also.
