Default Violence, looting and protests in Lusaka

UNZA ( university of Zambia) students are looting SA businesses e.g. Shoprite and Pink n Pay in Lusaka and protesting outside the SA embassy in response to the recent xenophobic attacks on Zambians in SA.

Take care if you are traveling through, especially if you are in a SA registered car!!

    That escalated quickly.

I don't see ANC goverment caring much seeing that most South African business in Africa are mainly WMC.

Zambians are really pŁ$"!ssed off with the attacks in SA mainly because Zambia was a safe haven for ANC during the struggle.
But yes it has happened quickly and to think Zambians are not normally noted for being a violent people; also times are hard here at the moment, Kariba is very low= 10hrs load shedding and with the drought the price of maize meal has doubled this year.

Tough times are here at the moment

Hmm, a few years ago we got stoned in Zimbabwe after similar xenophobic attacks here in SA.

Planning a Zambia trip soon, may have to cancel that.

The problem is Malema is already tweeting that the South Africans should not attack their "African brothers" because they are also the victims of white minority capital and the focus should rather be on WMC. So, yeah, how long before "the innocent caught in the middle" are not foreigners, but "colonialists"? Let's face it, if 200 rioters are bussed into a neighborhood during the day while most (male) adults are at work, who is going to stop them from looting your stuff, killing your wife and burning your house to the ground?

No not great news. There can and will be no winners. Even if you and I, in our safe homes and daily lives, are not affected directly we will be affected by the influence on the economy and probably the Rand weakening.

all this is going to have a negative affect on business the rand and everything else i agree. but its now reaching boiling point, and i doubt is going to stop until something happens. the fact that it's now spreading across the borders will have some sort of effect of how it's going to handled.

i seriously doubt somebody is going to bus people into a suburb and say ok go mad, run into these houses and just kill everybody in sight. that's just crazy paranoid thinking,

i just drove through, south west, zambia, bots, malawi and moz, not once did i feel unsafe, in fear of my life or worried, i found the people helpful, friendly and very welcoming towards us, so i find it hard to believe they are the ones that are out to get us. i think they are in the same boat as we are, just trying to carve out a living and a better life.it's a few that keep stirring things up to make life better for themselves.

We are in Lusaka at the moment, about 700m away from the SA High Commission. There was a little bit of protesting two days ago but it has all quietened down again. We have been driving round with a very unsubtle car (white cruiser with orange max tracks on the side) and Gauteng number plates with no issues to date. There was quite a heavy police and army presence yesterday but that seems to have lessened as well now.
