Default Cheaper National Luna 90l twin at Outdoor Warehouse?

    Hi Everyone,

I've recently noticed that Outdoor Warehouse now has the National Luna 90l twin available for R10,999 (with baskets) but they also still show two original options for R13,400 (no baskets) and R14 250 (with baskets).

    Does anyone know the difference?

    Thanks!

The cheaper one is the legacy one. It has a different compressor.

As I understand it, the old one has the Danfoss compressor and the new is their own compressor.

Ah, that would make sense. I wonder how the two compare regarding power consumption and reliability...

I think they warrant their own compressor the same as the more expensive unit, although warranties mean little when you are miles away from support and you have a failure.

I know the 'top end' NL has very good power consumption and is reliable - I have one too. But I'm just wondering: has anyone actually measured the power consumption of the Legacy range or has experience of its (un)reliability?

Where do you get this nonsense from Have you experience of the new one? Have you tried and tested it? If not please reserve your opinion. The new compressor has an 8 year warranty. My expensive NL had a failure in the first week of use.

Ok so I mailed National Luna about performace and differences between the two fridges and got this back:

“Although we have already done many tests on the new compressor and overall consumption, there are still many more to do before we have complete data to publish.

The new compressor is slightly more efficient but to the user it is hardly noticeable under most conditions.
We have also started to use a more efficient insulation formula which will have a greater improvement on efficiency.”

What a strange reply... So they admit that they have released a fridge into the market, on which they still have "many more tests to do"

I think you misunderstand his reply. To put it in context, I asked what the difference is in power consumption and if I can get measured power consumption specs as it is not available online.

So I don't think he was saying they still need to see if the new compressor works. No established business in their right mind would do that. Rather they still need to gather more data regarding the exact power consumption, especially in the field, before they can publish results.

National Luna has a brand reputation of quality and they would be foolish to tarnish that by releasing a product which is sub-standard and untested.

You will most probably find that most of these fridge compressors are being made in either China or Brazil, afaik only Matushita ( Japan ) still make their own compressors. NL will only put their brand name on the compressor but they will not have the capacity to manufacture them. More important will be how the fridges are being assembled and there NL has already proved themselves. I think it will mostly depend on the pc boards used to control the compressor
