    Default 1969 Mercedes 190d ponton

    Hi Gents

We’ve had a mercedes 190d in the family for more than 30 years but unfortunately space constraints dictate we will need to let go of the old girl.

The market for this kind of vehicle is obviously small and somewhat slow moving so I would like to ask members if they know where to advertise or whom to contact for such a vehicle sale.

Email the president of the Mercedes Benz Club of SA , Waldo Scribante on [email protected] . I'm sure you will get good advice and possibly also find a good home for the old girl

Beautiful! We have 2 Pontons in the family a 220S and a 180. There is a merket for these cars and some have even fetched crazy prices. They are getting scarce and parts even more so. If the coach is in good condition with no rust then a collector or enthusiast will jump at the opportunity to buy.

The Club is a good starting point but many MB collectors and die hards don't even belong to the club. All you can hope for is that you find a good home with someone who will keep her out on the road and in as close to original as possible. Dont rush, do anything to keep it as you will regret selling it - believe me! These cars are fairly easy to maintain because they are simple and well built and would be a good bet for someone looking for their first classic.

That 190D can run on almost anything. We had a fintail 190D that we started up after standing for 15 years - smokey, but idled and ran on diesel as green as grass.

The Ponton is one of my favourite MB cars and the last of a specific body design era.

Also, some of these cars may have an interesting history adding to their collector appeal. E.g. Our 180 belonged to NP van Wyk Louw.

Also, the German consulate owned 2 or 3 in the of which my dad bought one with a spare engine.

    P.S. I think it should be 1959.

    Thank you very much.

Indeed it appears to be a 1959 model.

As much as everyone adores the old merc we simple don’t have space, worse than that we dont find the time to enjoy it as we should Name: DSC_0432.jpg

Are you testing the waters or actually wanting to sell?
Looking at how rare these cars are, either you need to put a price on her and hope it get bought by a local who wants to keep it local, or the international market will nab it off you for a steal thanks to the exchange rate.

Perhaps slap a price here 1st and see if it flies off, then take to the open market.

Pre-owner cars are tough to price. They as valuable as the owner is willing to go low.

    Pieter - mooi kar!!

PM my of [email protected] of 0833841471

Apologies for the radio silence the past few days, we’ve had a chat with people who are apparently in the know.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and willingness to help.

They merc is officially for sale at a asking price of R120k. We shall see what happens.

Dankie Petri, ons het so paar mense in die onmiddelike omgewing wat belangstel. As dinge bietjie traag raak gaan ek beslis op jou nommer druk!

Forever regretting my uncle selling our family Ponton. '58 190D.

I can relate to above sentiments, it really only need the fumes of diesel to run.

My Pa het presies so 190D in die laat 70's gerestoureer. Erens in die 80's was dit ons skoolkar.

Soek oom Chris Cloete van Chris Cloete Motors i Moreletapark op, hy onderhou baie sulke klasieke modelle en sal verseker weet wie sou belangstel.
